I keep reading that there have been no public executions in the United States for decades. Not true.

They’re live-streaming the execution of the person they think they can get away with doing that to first. It’s a test. If they can do that, they’ll expand the margins of permission.

"For Canada, the choice came down to either accepting severe but temporary economic instability or binding itself to a pseudodemocratic fiscal basket case of a nation whose only apparent foreign policy objective has become domination for the gratification of its president’s slapdash vanity."
I just want to say for the record that when the history books are written centuries from now, I believe the election of Donald Trump in a free and fair election in 2024 will go down as one of the most senseless and self-destructive own goals in human history
It is Terry Fox Day, the run/walk in his name to raise money for cancer research. I learn it is now in 30 countries. That gallant 18 year old who did his own run in 1980, before his cancer stopped him, started something global. He tops most polls I’ve ever seen here for most-admired Canadian.
the new import tariff on art means that if I bring any original pieces for folks to look at (and potentially buy) at a comic con, I need to pay 50% of the value of my own art when I cross the border, whether or not it sells.

That is to say: I've written and published 16 books, and I'm wholly proud of the most recent 10 of them, including this latest small, weird, inconsequential one. I'm 51, I've never been a better writer than I am now & I believe my best is still to come. So maybe it's not such a bad place to be in.
Tom and I were both bitten by the same UK publisher’s collapse. It is maddening to have all the brain cycles you want to use for creating things taken up by paperwork and bureaucracy.
I felt furious at the money and hard work that had been taken from me. But I also felt furious at the fact that, by saddling me with so much admin - online and not online - to do in order to recover and survive, Unbound had also robbed me of what I felt would have been a rich creative period.
"If you read the review of Everything Will Swallow You in The Guardian, and were put off by the description of 'comfy cardigan fiction', please ignore and forget it. That is as wrong as it would be to describe Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet as 'chicklit'." www.marshwoodvale.com/books/2026/0...

“Guys, they want us to go home.” 🔥 🇫🇷 French short film about what would happen to society if all the immigrants listened to angry old racist white men and left (aka the Republican agenda)
There have been so many impeachable offenses, but lying about how you were a hero on a day that 2,753 people died in NYC in the 9/11 disaster—when you were on the other side of town, safely calling local media to brag about how you now had the tallest downtown building—is such a despicable one
and then they put me on a pickup truck and i gave a speech like you wouldnt believe and randy quaid was there and we had all the pilots and flew up and it was so amazing. i told randy, “randy, fly your plane when the thing opens” and he did and many people say i saved us from the aliens that day
Trump claims he was basically lifted out of the rubble on 9/11: "Two fireman, big strong guys, they grabbed me under the arms -- 'got to get our of here!' -- and they literally lifted me up, and they started running with me."
The proto-Effin’ Birds was my Tumblr “Swear Trek”. It opened a lot of doors for me and I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. I don’t have plans to revive it (one daily comic is enough work), just wanted to thank it for getting me here on this 60th anniversary of Star Trek.

kill the MAHA in your head, a non-exhaustive list: -stop using the word "chemicals" in a derogatory way. When criticizing specific types of chemicals, be specific. -stop saying "clean eating" for whatever diet you're on. food you're avoiding isn't dirty or bad just because you are avoiding it.
Canadian, here. I recognize that it will be difficult for Bessent to achieve completely, but if his goal is to make sure no Canadian tourists visit the US and no Canadians buy anything from the US that they don’t have to buy from it for generations to come, he’s going about it the right way.
Trent McClellan says it like it is. 🏆👏🏽🇨🇦 Arrogance: not all Americans have it, but their culture celebrates it.
Mark Carney in Thunder Bay on Lutnick: "I don't think, with all respect, appointed unelected cabinet members in the United States are experts on Canadian politics"
