hey! Former researcher at Cornell on GMOs and pesticides here, now I write fiction instead. all "hard science" departments lose money and most humanities/"soft science" departments make money. it is an open secret in academia that the humanities cover the shortfall for our scientist colleagues

In which a Yale prof calls for jettisoning humanities to make way for science-only universities. “scientists… are being punished for the sins of [humanities scholars] because we all live under one roof. I cannot see a compelling reason for our continued cohabitation.”

"YIMBY mixed-use he/him" bitch you attended a 90k/year private high school and live in a "hipster" part of town that used to be am immigrant community until a highway razed half the land using redlining and now you can walk to whole foods from your 2 million dollar condo with social justice shirts

The sad thing is, I think there are use cases for AI. I couldn’t tell you the number of times I’ve been able to find obscure studies and articles that Google just no longer is good for finding. It’s also light years better at language translation than google translate. But that’s not how it’s used.

the solution is universal pass/fail with grades based on weekly in-class exams and small-group discussion sections. no electronics, no textbooks, no notes. lectures and discussion sections should be at least 2 hrs long and 3 times a week, minimum. and cap number of classes at 3 per semester.
