I was never a big South Park fan but this particular series fucking nailed it and I still think about it from time to time.

This is such an great feature (Rebecca is great!), and I've been thinking about it for a few days. IMO, "Influencer" in the ten-years-ago sense was really a LOT of jobs (spokesmodel/copywriter/etc.) but now it's morphing, at least in part, into "intentionally annoying person" which feels worse.
really enjoy how the election results are giving a big raspberry to centrists.
My dog is snoring his tiny little head off and I love that for him.
this may be the greatest thing I have heard in months it makes me exceedingly happy

i'm mad that the AQI made me think about whether it was safe for me to ride my bike to do my errands today.
Seattle pals, plz vote and head to the ballot box today. i find this useful when i'm not sure what's up with the issues or the candidates: www.progressivevotersguide.com/washington

"Today is August 4, 2026." Can't find my copy of The Martian Chronicles to take a photo of the actual published story, but it remains a collection well worth reading 76 years later: bookshop.org/a/862/9781668094853 #books #writing

watching the smoke roll in, i'm like "good thing i have all these KN95s..." and also, "fuuuuccccckkkkk, remember how we had a whole PANDEMIC and that's why you have all these KN95s?!?!"
These are weird times and I am finding new ways to tackle my problems.

I feel like anyone who thinks there's a dearth of sports fans on bsky was off line the entire world cup.
Side note to the handful of people who follow me in the 46th district: Wil Dreher is taking wads of cash from AI companies. He's not that guy. Ron Davis is the progressive candidate. If Dreher gets through, Pollet is probably the better option given he's not owned by Big Tech
went past two 11/12 yo (ish, i'm bad at this) boys and one of them was carrying a bag of marshmallows and i'm guessing they're headed home to make rice krispie treats, at least i hope this is the wholesome shenanigans they're up to.
yeah, this is me. it's been terrible.
Women ages 40+ searching for jobs may find their decades of experience as a hindrance. Some remove dates and years of experience from their resume. It is another way women are considered 'never quite right'. www.thetimes.com/money/family...
went to drop my ballot and a woman on the same errand to the drop box let out a smallish YAY and clapped. :)
i almost feel bad for these people. brigading is uncool, for sure, and their comments sections are an absolute stampede. also, thinking is cool. like, using your brain to work through the potential implications of doing a thing is a good thing to do.
“Another influencer who posted about the trip was asked if she was going to do a get-ready-with-me (the popular video format where influencers record their process of getting ready) about touring a data center.”
I just can’t with this. A LOT OF US DON’T WANT TO HELP TRAIN ai! They are *stealing* from us. If they need to steal to be successful, maybe they shouldn’t be in business.
Do you use Instagram or Gmail? You could be helping to train AI. Big Tech has turned what all of us helped create into a trillion-dollar industry. It’s time to tax AI so you can share in its success.
seattle/king county voters, get those ballots in. nick duda was canvassing my 'hood himself and he seemed like a good guy, but too centrist for this commie.
i applied for a job this morning, it's a good fit, but it turns out to be through yet another aggregator (?) and i immediately got an ad for some "job application pro" bullshit. i hate what looking for a job has become. HATE IT.

" I keep hearing people argue that generative AI is a tool, but what is it actually being used for? Who does this help? Not us, not readers, and certainly not freelancers, who are now more likely to be ignored if they are new to their careers and unknown to the editors they’re trying to pitch."
I wrote about Ravenous preparing to commission freelance (yayy!!!) and realizing that means having to plan for AI scams (boooooo) www.weareravenous.com/ai-freelance...

y'all. my morning took me to the denny's where i encountered two gorgeous 20-somethings in the ladies, they were wearing sneakers and sequined black evening gowns at 9:30am. "make the denny's what you want it to be" one of them said when i admired their completely unexpected style.
honest to freaking god. any sensible person could have told them this.
Journalists, human rights advocates and open source analysts recoiled in horror at the move: "The opportunities for abuse and disinfo are literally boundless," said one. n.pr/4c7L91d
