Today's talk of the town. It sounds like the 2yo would keep removing the seatbelt, no matter what. I'm not sure if "lax parenting style" is really responsible here.

"Women accounted for 100 percent of the decline in the labor force in July, according to a National Women’s Law Center analysis of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’s latest dismal jobs report. Overall, the economy lost 23,000 jobs in July: Women lost 32,000 jobs, while men gained 9,000."

This is how Bob Dylan nearly died in the mid-90s. He was out walking following a dust storm and breathed in a pathogen, and developed a serious infection .

Just considering pulling a rickshaw (fun fact: 力車, or human-powered carts, did not exist until Western contact in Japan) is enough to give me angina.
CITIZEN KANE is not a great work that suddenly burst out of a young prodigy’s head...It is a superb example of collaboration; everyone connected with it seems to have had the time of his life because he was able to contribute to something. (1971)
Great campaign announcement for Beaches LPC candidate
Thanks to everyone who came out to The Stone Lion Pub in Beaches—East York yesterday. Tanveer Shahnawaz has served this community for years, and now this crew is working hard to send him to Parliament. On August 31, let’s get it done.

"My daughter is five now. The extreme conditions into which she was born are no longer exceptional events. They are becoming part of the world in which her generation will grow up. Canadians deserve to understand why. Our public broadcaster has a responsibility to help us do that." #cdnpoli
Canada is burning. Why won’t CBC tell us why? Reports on wildfires, heat, and extreme weather don't consistently connect the dots to fossil fuels, leaving Canadians without the context they need to understand the unfolding crisis. @sfu.ca's Tara Mahoney explains: ricochet.media/media/canada...

Not USA, but we used to do this when I was a kid in the early 80s in middle-middle class, secular suburban Canada. Jennifer P, wearing a hockey helmet, rode her ten-speed off the jump and smashed face first-into the asphalt. I can still remember her little white front tooth embedded in the pavement.
Like true American soldiers
A bit unnerving that this has become a typical summer scene. I suppose this uneasiness is remedied by the fact that our "elbows up" PM is announcing new O&G projects on what seems like a daily basis.

What flavor of evil is that? People spend a considerable amount of time preparing their application files, checking all the right boxes. Do you think they'd have the curtesy to apply new rules to NEW applications with enough warning? If I was not settled with kid, I'd leave.

A brutal film. Hard to watch. But shot in some pretty iconic locations in olde timey Vang-coover. And the Fraser Valley. Probably Mission? Captures the denim-clad menace of B.C. in 1980 that I remember. Starring, directed by Dennis Hopper, ostracized from Hollywood. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out_of_...

A comment made right at the dawn of the Hollywood New Wave, as a changing media landscape made it easier for independent directors to make movies, and a decade before Star Wars (which Kael panned) and JAWS (which Kael seemed to like) upended Hollywood all over again.
It is possible that in the next few years television will wreck movies, not, as was thought possible earlier, by taking the audience away, but by its simplified methods and by killing B movies, which were the training ground for directors. (1966)
Shelley Duvall may be the closest thing we’ve ever come to a female Buster Keaton; her eccentric grace is like his—it seems to come from the inside out. And the exaggerated sensitivity in her face might be called an equivalent of his mask of isolation. (1980)
