We're Newham’s second party, as the official opposition holding the Labour council to account. Fighting for a fairer, safer, Greener Newham! Promoted by Mark Harris for Newham Green Party, International House, 12 Constance St, Silvertown, E16 2DQ.
We should allow asylum seekers to work – so that they can support themselves and become part of our communities. It’s these common sense solutions, not more performative cruelty, that will fix our broken migration system. metro.co.uk/2026/07/01/z...
Zack Polanski: Burnham must end Labour's dangerous anti-migrant slant
I don’t have much hope for the man who will soon have the power to change things.

Say hello to Arshan, Ibrahim, and Joe – our new leadership team here to lead our biggest ever Green council group in Newham. We'll all be working hard for residents and to hold Newham's Labour Mayor to account.
While I’m no longer a member of the Pensions Committee, I’m confident Cllr Ibrahim Alom (new Pensions Chair) & @joehudsonsmall.bsky.social (committee member) will be looking at these closely to ensure they meet our ethical standards and do not expose us to complicity in the Palestinian genocide. 🇵🇸
@newhamgreens.bsky.social strongly believe the fund must be protected from complicity in the genocide taking place in Gaza. This publication is the transparency residents and fund members deserve. This in no way contradicts the fiduciary duty the Pensions committee has to ensure sound investment.
It’s inexplicable that it took six months to publish the information after the Pension Committee was promised it, and my questions during that time were stonewalled too. That’s after it took months to answer my demands for justification for it not being published.
This comes after the council repeatedly rejected Freedom of Information requests for this information, making it one of few councils who refuse to publish this.
🚨 After I won a commitment at December’s Pension Committee meeting after months of questioning, I’m proud Newham’s pension fund has finally published its list of holdings. This is the transparency that residents and fund members deserve.

The updated code of practice for services, public functions and associations has been laid before Parliament. The guidance tells organisations how they should approach trans inclusion. Here’s what that means.
An historic night in #Newham this is amazing to see. @natehiggins.bsky.social A Green councillor, elected chair of the council. @newhamgreens.bsky.social
Newham Council have their first meeting since the elections at 7pm tonight, this will be interesting. Labour (26) Newham Independents (24) Green (16) www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_R-...
Greens are serious about finding common ground where we can and working for all the people of Newham, while NIP would apparently rather grandstand and attack people who should be working together.
NIP vagueposting would give you the impression that we gave Labour the mayor, chair, and control of council committees. That never happened – and NIP voted for the same deal we all did!
Together Greens and NIP chair all the scrutiny committees. We also chair pensions and most other committees – and between Greens and NIP, we have a majority on every single committee. Yes, Labour got vice chair of council – that’s it – NIP call this an “unholy alliance” with Labour for some reason…
Greens have chair of council – for the first time in history our meetings won’t be stage-managed by Labour – we will treat all elected councillors fairly. NIP have chair of overview and scrutiny, probably the most powerful role besides the Labour mayor (who was directly elected by residents).
There’s a lot of misinformation out there being spread by the Newham Independents Party about last nights council meeting. They say we have joined with Labour in an “unholy alliance.” Here’s what actually happened 🧵👇
Gentle reminder - the government could make our lives better by: 🏡 Introducing rent controls 💷 Introducing a wealth tax 💧Bringing water back into public ownership You know who is advocating for this? Us. Join the Green Party today 💚 #costofliving
We are pleased to announce that Cllr Nate Higgins @natehiggins.bsky.social has been elected by a majority of councillors as Chair of London Borough of Newham Council
I don't just mean party politics, I mean how you contribute to your community. Volunteering, assisting, joining a group and organising. Posting online to people who broadly agree with you, or being crude about people who don't, will not change society. Showing up somewhere once a week can.
Find out how you can contribute time, energy, experience and expertise in the next 3 years before the general election. It's coming and it will be Greens vs Reform. Voting is a given. Participate, volunteer, find something you're enthusiastic about, where are you needed? Muck in.
I've been out canvassing in East London when I can over the past month and a bit with these lovely people. If you're in an area where Reform got in, or you're posting your hot takes on their gains, please...
Congratulations to our group of SIXTEEN Newham Green Party Councillors, fighting for their communities day in and day out. Let's meet them 👇 Starting with @natehiggins.bsky.social re-elected to Stratford Olympic Park joined by new Green councillor @joehudsonsmall.bsky.social, with a huge majority!
