@cambridgeindy.bsky.social Do you know what's happening at the mosque? They've closed Mill Road from Coleridge to the end.
"A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesperson said: "Works to repair the sinkhole, are underway but while excavating, the team discovered a new, unknown source of water" That's handy what with the hose pipe ban, we should dig up more roads to find water. www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambrid...

"Anglian Water said it had switched off technology designed to filter out the nutrient, citing difficulties transporting the necessary chemicals." Is it difficult? Boohoo, try harder or let someone do it. share.google/pG66KTvPsJ3H...

Forget aircon. The most important policy response to the heatwave is we need to bring back louder clothing. So many burlap sacks, so many drab, orphaned shirts.
Does anyone know if there's an equivalent of the London cool spaces map for Cambridge? apps.london.gov.uk/cool-spaces/ @philrodgers.co.uk @elliottonguk.bsky.social

Sash windows are great, but still only open them if it's warmer inside your house than outside. Otherwise you'll be warming your house, not cooling!
If safe to do so, open the sashes the same amount at the top and the bottom. This ensures that warm air goes out at the top (because heat rises) and cooler air is pulled in at the bottom.

At least 3 Chinooks have now flown over me from Cambridge airport, what is going on.
We need to think deeper: why is this unacceptable for a 17 year old but acceptable for an 18 year old - or a 57 year old? Age controls are not the real problem.
This is unacceptable. Is a 17 year old boy being pushed to watch antisemitic conspiracy theories about Jewish people after just 11 minutes what Meta considers to be age-appropriate? (1/3)

We are announcing today the establishment of a Greater Cambridge Development Corporation. Working closely with local partners and communities, this Labour government will deliver high-quality, sustainable and nationally significant growth in Cambridge and its surrounding areas.
Today I'm posting a new blog about an astonishing scientific own goal. Hundreds of papers have reported using a totally wrong antibody to investigate the tumor suppressor p16. This mistake has happened because scientists have muddled the names of two proteins. forbetterscience.com/2026/06/02/m...
'For 66 years Valerie Smith kept a bomb in her garden and invited her neighbours to play with it.' Come for the classic local news story, stay for a fine example of the full fat Norwich accent which has to be heard to be believed.
Norwich woman invited guests to play with a bomb in her garden
Valerie Smith refused to leave when a gardener found a bomb in her garden.

Every summer I repost this article on how to spot drowning. Please read it and pass on. In the last few years I’ve had SIX messages from people who saved a kid’s life after clicking on the link from my feed. slate.com/technology/2...
Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning
Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

@johanduchene.bsky.social @sholtodavid.bsky.social Spent the last hour looking, found ten more apparently manipulated Western blots in Thermo Fisher's antibody verification data (across eight different catalogued products). Thread below. www.thermofisher.com/antibody/pro...

Reminder that there is no scientific definition for "ultra-processed food", and no theory for the mechanism by which it is supposedly uniquely harmful.
Increasing your daily consumption of ultraprocessed foods by 10% — basically the equivalent of a small bag of potato chips — may raise your risk of dementia even if you normally eat a healthy plant-rich diet, according to a new study. https://cnn.it/4n0zNR6
I cannot overstate how completely insane this story is
This is quite the story.
