Loved this story about a wacky, surreal and slightly fantastical Dublin. Thinking about how, while there are many set in Dublin there are not that many novels about Dublin, since the obvious of couse

Aerial PARTIAL view of the anti racist, anti fascist crowd in Belfast right now. City Hall to the left for scale. This - this is the real Belfast. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Per most recent figures, net migration to NI *over the past 22 years* has been ~62,000 people. Only 3% of Northern Ireland’s population currently belong to an ethnic minority. Pogroms in Belfast (as with Ballymena last year) are just gutter-level "One Is One Too Many" racism, and nothing else.

Many women have been horrifically killed here in the past 5 years, including at least 7 who were stabbed multiple times, and their deaths did not receive statements from the PM, debates in the commons, or global news coverage. Nor were there any riots, or condemnations of cultures by politicians.

A picture of violence: The 30 women killed in more than four years

In at least 21 of the 30 deaths, the killers - or the suspects in their killings - were well-known to the women.

Southampton is a city that has had real problems with racial violence and racist division in the past, but because of this it also has a strong and proud tradition of anti-racist activism. The community will drive this scum out of the city like they chased out Mosley in 1937.

I loved Marina Zucchelli’s novel Latte about the relationship between a wealthy new mother and the wet nurse she employed in late 1950s Bologna. Such a fascinating exploration of maternity, class and power, I hope it will be translated so I can recommend it to more people

One (anonymous) woman's account of navigating the "sexual marketplace" of Silicon Valley ca. 2015, as the rich tech dudes were beginning to get a little fashy.

Does anyone write regularly in multiple languages in Word? I changed my spell check to Italian to write a thing and it won’t change back. Surely it should be normal to be able to switch between supported languages? I have done it before but not super regularly…

At the event we'll be hearing from @lsangha.bsky.social, @lauracking.bsky.social, Paul Carter (TNA), @ruthslatter.bsky.social, @isabellajackson.bsky.social, Grace Huxford (Bristol), @lucynoakes1.bsky.social, @beckierutherford.bsky.social & Naomi Tadmor (Lancaster), all at the @ihr.bsky.social!

This generation of children will never forgive us for this. They will particularly not forgive us if we took all their social media away - which was problematic but at least conversation with real people - and pushed them toward AI chatbots.

Oh my god people are giving small children AI toys and expecting them to learn communication from them??? THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT HUMANS SHOULD BE DOING THIS IS NOT AI'S JOB WHAT THE HELL www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Hello! During the pandemic, I compiled a collection of digitised Great War primary sources for student research essays. Going through them just now for my current class, loads of those links are now dead. Does anyone have any favourite online source collections (that work)? Will share new list!
