Nick Badot

@nickbadot.bsky.social

Irish-Belgian writer of things macabre and fantastical. Words in Factor Four, Solstitia, Andromeda Spaceways, Impossible Worlds, and more. I'm querying a dark fantasy novel partly set in early 1900s Dublin and a sword and sorcery novella

Looks like someone pirated Daily Science Fiction's entire output and posted them here, claiming to have author permission. At least a dozen authors to my knowledge have said they didn't grant permission. If you were published by DFS, you might wanna consider a Cease and Desist.

So, turns out laser eye surgery degrades after a few years if you work with screens all day. I am a binoclard once again. I reckon it suits me though? Anyway, 2 acceptances for 2 horror anthologies in as many weeks. Onwards and upwards

Long haired dude (me) with glasses & the spectre of a well-lit kitchen in the background

if you want to reduce your impact on the planet just cutting your meat consumption down to once or twice a week rather than daily will accomplish more than basically every other change to your routine you could make combined. it's insane. you could never drive a car again and itd probably do less.

GIVEAWAY! Dead Weight is coming out next week and to celebrate I'm giving away two copies that have been personally bitten by Uggi and will be personally signed by me and shipped to the winners wherever they live! To enter just like and share this post and I'll select the winners on May 26th!

A personal piece. I hadn't done a cyberpunk pic in ages and I wanted to take my time with something and put some real work in. I also wanted to set it in Ireland, with alternative brands for those must-have logos littering the cityscape. I loved working on this. I'm open for commissions! #SpeirGorm

A cyberpunk cityscape at night, with towering corporate buildings in the distant background, but a rundown corner between two back streets in the immediate setting, below two overpasses. Two motorbike riders are racing in from the left, past a streetsweeper vehicle, and on the right a bright red, futuristic motorbike leaps over a sports car, flying through the air towards us. The rider is a black woman, with short hair and green and red headset. She is in an orange jacket and green combats, and as a cybernetic left arm. She's whooping with joy. Her pillion passenger is a white woman with a purple streak in her dark hair. She's leaning back and taking a selfie, with a flying Garda vehicle (Ireland's police force) in the air above them. Another Garda patroller is swooping in on the left above the other two bikers. The around the city are most open source tech like LibreOffice, Firefox and Krita, and a couple of Irish brands, Centra and An Post.

Nature is healing! Context: Part of the #Bray Cliff walk reopened (closed due to rockfall), with a new barrier further down the path. Almost immediately some enterprising citizen cut the side gate with bolt cutters and left helpful video-game yellow graffiti pointing to the illicit new path

A barrier on the Bray Cliff walk marked "danger". Someone has cut the wire fence to the side and marked the opening with a yellow arrowA view from beyond the hole in the fence, which leads to a cliff edge. Gorse in the foreground wirh a steep decline that ends with the railroad tracks and a rocky beachhead

he's doing all the typical male activities like drinking pond mulch & running his hands through the gravel until his fingers are calloused and bleeding, then pressing them into the mud below which is soft, so soft & so welcoming

two, maybe three questions how "issues"/chapters should I finish before launching a webcomic and what do I need to do to try patreon again. what are the kids into these days? forgive the basic questions, I am an idiot.

A little bittersweet to receive my contributor copy of Lucent Dreaming Issue 15, as it will be their last. I am honoured they chose to include my maudlin cli-fi story MOLEHILLS in their swan song. Many thanks to the editorial team for the great job they did putting this together

Do I know any journalists or news outlets who might be willing to write an article about the months I’ve spent begging GoFundMe to release the funds I’ve raised? I wish this were more common knowledge so no one else finds themselves in this position. (Please boost!)

It feels weird to say "Buy my book" given everything, but I stand by the dedication on this collection's first page: "To the women of Saint Paul, who deserve endless praise." The resistance here is strong, and I'm so proud of my community working every hour of every day to protect our neighbors.

@katmabu.bsky.social I would like to highly recommend MN author @jordanrhirsch.bsky.social's collection of sci-fi/fantasy short stories that take place in her (currently besieged) state.

⚠️ NEED REMOTE WORK 💻 I am disabled and the in-person jobs I've taken and am applying for are unsustainable for me. If anyone could direct me to any clerical/data remote jobs, I'd be grateful. I have 20 years experience with Excel and AMS's. (Dog pic for tax)
