Birder, photography, football, music and travel are my passions! My happy places....Singapore, Dorset (Portland), Cyprus and of course my home county....West Sussex

After a great week on Lesvos, I was welcomed home to a new bird for Sussex for me , 2 Spotted Sandpipers on the River Ouse near Southease (East Sussex) great to see them in their finery too. The bridge camera came in handy to get these shots #ukbirds 🪶 #nikon

It just wouldn't be lesvos without the clanking of an Olive tree warbler usually well hidden amongst the olive groves, this individual was using a dead tree to sing from chasing off all competition

I saw my first Spotted Sandpiper on the shores of Buttermere in the Lake District 9 years ago - this one on the Ouse near Southease was rather more co-operative & the weather was better! I spent a very pleasant hour watching this smart American vagrant wader foraging in warm sunshine. #BirdingUK/IRE

This Sunday decided to go to Swineham Point to see the Red-spotted Bluethroat, with @ajordanwildlife (thanks for driving mate), the walk wasn’t helped by my dodgy knees, but was well worth it… stunning little bird #UKWildlife

Like some other well-known Americans(mention no names) , the Forster's Tern seems to have plenty to say for itself😀 Poole Park, 06/03/26

We lost a birding legend today, my uncle Gary (Messenbird) passed away after several health issues this morning, a Beddington and Surrey legend and a big influence on my birding life, something I will be forever grateful for ! He will be missed 🪶

First visit of the year to Staines res...Water levels still dropping. Lesser and Greater Scaups showed well at the tower end, upto 3 Great-northern Divers and a good scattering of Black-necked Grebes made it a good morning...bitterly cold

Yellow-browed Bunting trapped, ringed and released at the Swannery. It's flown to the hedge which runs alongside the Swannery grounds and the bird may be viewable from the permissive path heading west from Grove Lane.
