Having kids has made me more anti-car than childless me could have imagined.

What I’ve realized with Brian and Jack gone for the past few days and me home with the cats is that I need to take more time to myself to sit at a restaurant with a book and be alone in public.

I have the whole day to myself so I’m indulging by getting a massage and buying nonsense I don’t need but love to have at the Dupont Farmer’s Market. Nonsense includes fresh mushrooms, heirloom tomatoes, and pickles.

This makes me feel old. Even I used my parents’ record player when I was a kid!

Today Jack biked 14 miles in this beautiful weather, with 600ft elevation gain, and also hiked a cliffside waterfall trail. I’m exhausted but somehow he’s not.

J is allowed to watch tv on weekends only, and I secretly love that he wakes up at 6:30 on Saturday morning and by 7:45 he’s already bored with tv and shuts it off to do something else.

This evening after biking to camp pick up the family biked down to Navy Yard for free fishing, fished for an hour, then biked back home past the Capitol. It’s so easy to bop around to free events around the city in a bike.
