Normally I just appreciatively read @jamellebouie.net 's columns-sharable video content just isn't my bag. But this is a very, very, very trenchant piece of commentary that captures a lot of how I increasingly understand the disjunction between the commentary environment and on-the-ground politics.

Next iteration should focus on pedestrianizing several streets. We are not there yet politically but that's what needs to happen in the long term. We need to remove cars from the city. There is no way around that if we care about livability and a habitable planet.

I appreciate this video, not just because it's complimentary towards the work that we're doing in Minneapolis, but because it reflects the same sense that I have about our *momentum* towards building a better city. I think we've got something special here and I'm glad people are noticing.

I spend time on Tennis Threads and it's like hanging out at the corner bar and then you walk over to Bluesky and realize you're in the basement of a 150 year old Church with a mold issue.

I genuinely laughed out loud at this. I think this person is just a troll, BUT there are lots of Americans who’ve been so fooled by the car lobby to think things similar to this. PSA: Kids can survive the cold w/o cars! Winter gear exists and is pretty great.

Driving is often an unpleasant chore and people dislike doing it; but they cannot admit this to themselves because the implications are too serious.

This building is so weird when you walk by it. How many buildings in the country have a hotel and police station in the same building? It's a miserable location too, right at the on ramp to the freeway. You have to walk by it to feel the enormity of the bad vibes.

While biking in south Minneapolis today I kept thinking about the 30 million in overtime the cops have racked up and their overall share of the budget. Lot of trail repair, school programming, pedestrian safety, traffic calming, etc projects that can't get funded. And it happens annually.

Just because there's a lot of green everywhere doesn't mean they grow food in car-dependent suburbs either. Does anyone ever lecture suburbanites to drive away from the big box stores to see where their food comes from or is that only something people tell city dwellers?

Democrats hate public transit and want to cut it wherever they can. You know Minnesota Democrats are dreaming of doing the same and with Klobuchar as Gov, it will be bad.

It was bullshit, the fervent projection of a bunch of cultural elites who hated the left backed up by business elites who hated the workers empowered by a tight labor market. They embraced it, puffed it up as though it were solid & enduring, and now they should eat some crow.

I frequently draw comparisons between gun violence and traffic violence, and the most common similarity is the extent to which deaths have been accepted as the cost of driver's (often perceived) convenience, comfort, and independence. One key difference, however: Motonormativity is bipartisan.
