Playing the what bus can I take to escape the smoke tomorrow game. Looks like Bainbridge ferry to Straight Shot to Port Angeles could work or 574 to Intercity Transit to Grays Harbor Transit to Aberdeen are both low smoke destination options. I've had a headache all day, even indoors.

Unlike the Ontario wildfires, which were mostly burning in the woods, these fires have now burned through urban areas, making the smoke extra, extra toxic. Take the AQI warnings seriously this week, PNW neighbors.

Seattle DADU question -- we have a carport that shares a wall with our neighbors carport. If we wanted to build a DADU in the carport space, would we have to do a 5' setback or would we be allowed to build up to the property line because of the pre-existing structure? Asking because...

After 19 days of no home internet, service was restored, but now fighting with Quantum for bill credit for the days we didn't have service. They don't automatically credit customers accounts "As that is because to maintain the secure so that the customer will be getting the correct details."

Latest Quantum internet outage update: Quantum is now telling us maybe they'll fix things by July 30th. I'm not sure at this point they actually plant to restore service get. There are at 70 other households in Rainier Valley impacted by this outage, which started July 11.

Yet another case where SEPA falls short to address the environmental impact. Seattle should follow Minneapolis and outright ban all new drive thrus.

We were all baffled at the choice to build a standalone there when there was already one inside the Safeway, and this answers that question. Despicable, but hardly surprising from them. It's *walking distance* from the Community Center and RBHS, and yet...

Can we talk about Starbuck's strategic choice to build drive thru only stores in low-income neighborhoods? I can't believe they just opened a brand new store next to the Rainier Beach Safeway bus stop with no pedestrian access. 1/3

Car dependency was not a choice. It was and is the deprivation of choice. Facing the loss of her bus service, Mildred Cooper looked for others in Long Beach whose mobility was also at risk. She collected 7,231 signatures. When that did not suffice, she collected 2,400 signatures more.

Quantum internet is back in our neighborhood, 16 days later. It was squirrels. Apparently they really like the taste of fiber.

Just waiting to cross MLk at the light at a Graham, two different people passed me biking along the sidewalk. Imagine how many people would bike if we actually had biking infrastructure in Rainier Valley. Could we start with bike counters on both sidewalks, Seattle DOT?

I also think about how we need to allow for more housing in areas of the City that have been wealthy and exclusionary, whether due to restrictive covenants or single-family zoning, for too long. Increasing housing options in these areas provides more opportunities and options and reduces pressure

Our City and region are going to continue to grow in population. We can’t stop that even if we wanted to (and that’s not what I want). So where are people going to live? Are they going to live in the City or are we going to cut down more forests and farmland to build suburban housing?

And when we talk about housing, I think we need to get away from the framing that it’s ordinary citizens fighting against evil greedy developers. Because often what we are really talking about is current residents fighting against denser housing for new/additional neighbors.

Got hit by a car on a bike ride today. Fortunately it was very slow speed. The car was fully stopped and drove into me as I was in a crosswalk. I was actually really scared at first because I thought the driver saw me and l was actively trying to kill me...

Quantum is now saying end of the day 7/24 for service restoration. They told my neighbor 7/30. A, lot of people on the block have switched to Xfinity at this point, 10 days into the outage. Tell me more about how AI is going to solve all my problems, when Seattle can't even get reliable internet

If you can see why telling drivers to "just get a bike" is a problem, you should understand why telling cyclists to "just get off & walk" is an unacceptable response to gaps in infrastructure. Not all cyclists can get off & walk, many who can cannot do so repeatedly or for long cumulative distances.

This Disability Pride I would like to remind everyone that some disabilities being invisible remains true when the person in question is riding a bicycle, & that disabled people who cannot drive &/ do not have access to cars need & deserve to get around easily just as much as those who rely on cars.

Here's another video where it's a little darker and so it's clearer to see how little time there is to cross. And there are bus stops on either side of this highway.
