Here’s your daily reminder that when you go to cast your ballot in November please vote all the way down the ballot. The further down you go, those races really do get closer to your front door and ultimately your wallet. Let’s turn these laboratories of autocracy back into democracy.

This girl I used to waitress with in Austin, we moved to New York together in 2003 on a literal Greyhound bus. Shared a fifth floor walk-up studio that, when it rained, had more leaks in the ceiling than we had pots and pans. We used to get drunk and smoke off the fire escape and do “sad-offs.”

There is a possibility that my voice may be heard among the hilarity. Even if not, this will be very funny. IS very funny (I read the script)

Next year, @thesonarnetwork.bsky.social will release a brand-new audio comedy that I wrote to star Chris Elliott about a former white rap star from the early 1990s. In the meantime, if you haven't yet heard Stanland, also from Sonar, would you give it a listen? It's free! www.stanlandseries.com

Again, it’s only about money with Trump. “Lose your shirt,” re: windmills, as if the point of energy is making money. NATO is about money to him. Stop asking him questions, start holding him accountable.

Trump: "When I see what's happening to Europe it's very sad to me. They have a problem with immigration. They have a problem with energy. You have windmills all over the place. Windmills, you lose your shirt."

This is useful but also: the Dem response to tyranny is…read a bunch of books? Yes, knowledge is supposedly power, but I’m thinking we’re closer to the torches in the streets moment. (Yes, I’ve protested, yes, I will read the books, but I want more.)

Want to Fight Back Against Big Tech? Start Here. “Democrats cannot just ‘win the midterms’ and go back to life before Donald Trump and his army of tech bros upended our way of life,” writes @tressiemcphd.bsky.social gift link www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/o...

A reminder that people who know anything about politics -- what the parties are, what they stand for, their record, who they've elected, how government works -- are a freakish minority. Most people know *nothing at all* past the vague mythologies that sift down through pop culture.

The two people who are breaking through the noise and cutting through to the essence of what is happening right now with deeply damaged Donald Trump are Jon Ossoff and Hunter Biden. Here is Hunter's very perceptive take on the messy scene at the White House Correspondents Dinner:

"The steam drill didn’t want John Henry’s job. Carey Dupont and the Velvet Sundown don’t want mine. They’re just machines. It’s the human beings behind these machines who don’t care about the livelihoods of working people, much less the unfathomable power of music to connect human beings."

This is an article that needed to be written and Owen Lyman-Schmidt took it all the way for @phillymag.com. Fascinating and angering.

Mainstream Respectable opinion is that people joking about a bad person's death represents a culture of cruelty, but really it represents a culture of impunity. It's a coping mechanism for watching someone do evil their whole life and never seeing consequences

It’s not easy to recognize you’re in a revolutionary moment in the middle of one. The Founders certainly didn’t all at first. Neither did many at the outset of the Civil War. But we’re in one. We have to be willing to embrace big historical change Happy 4th www.liberalcurrents.com/democrats-ne...

We are living through a revolutionary moment, whether Democrats want to do their jobs or not.

I worked at an ad agency that had the Pulte Homes account. We’d make an ad in the morning then be told that the price went up, make changes, then the price would go up again. Their houses were suburban sprawl garbage. #BillPulte
