Very disappointing from the new Prime Minister, very much sounding like the previous PM. These are among the world’s most vulnerable and desparate people. They need safe routes and humanity from responsible politicians, not grandstanding. This isn’t doing politics differently.

I observe that the vast majority of those people saying that Burnham is a huge disappointment are people who predicted he would be exactly what he is. It's one of the most grating aspects of politics in the social media age, the sheer dishonesty that underpins those who claim moral virtue.

Trans people are assaulted in bathrooms at far higher rates than anyone has ever been assaulted by them. The bathroom panic isn’t about safety. It’s about humiliation. About making trans people afraid to exist in public. About forcing them back into the closet where the bigots think they belong. And the people screaming about protecting women? They’re the same ones opposing the Equal Rights Amendment. The same ones stripping reproductive rights. The same ones fighting equal pay, paid family leave, and every policy that would actually help women. They don’t give a damn about women. They never have. They give a damn about control. About enforcing the boxes. Trans women are just the current target. Women are the permanent one. They claim to be protecting children too. But trans kids who are supported, have dramatically better mental health outcomes. Trans kids who are denied care have dramatically higher suicide rates. A teenager alone in their room at 2 AM. Parents who won’t listen. A school that won’t respect their name. A world that tells them they’re wrong, they’re confused, they’re dangerous, they’re sinners. The isolation. The despair. The belief that death might be easier than living one more day as someone you’re not. That’s what the bigots are protecting. Not children. Death. They are driving children to death and calling it morality. Because every major medical organisation affirms that gender-affirming care is medically necessary, safe, and effective. The American Medical Association. The American Psychological Association. The American Academy of Pediatrics. The American Psychiatric Association. The Endocrine Society. WPATH. [World Professional Association for Transgender Health] Every single one. Decades of peer-reviewed research. Thousands of studies. The evidence is overwhelming. The consensus is absolute.This General Medical Council conclusions from "Findings of Fact" for Dr Helen Webberley's Tribunal is especially chilling in this context. Now by way of conclusion, important to underline this case is not about social politics of transgenderism or the bio-ethics of what constitutes gender identity, nor is it about the appropriateness or otherwise of selective use of hormonal treatments to help transgender patients address the often-complex issue of their transgender variance. Rather, it is about if and when these possible treatments, long since identified by endocrinologists and pharmacologists but still undergoing research, as possible courses of medical intervention in the treatment of transgender patients diagnosed with gender variance, should be provided to patients by doctors in the United Kingdom, according to Good medical practice. This case is concerned with the fundamental and unchanging principle despite the continuing changes in medical science and treatment, every patient should be treated in accordance with established principles of Good medical practice, so as to ensure their physical and mental wellbeing; BUT alongside this principle is the important rider *** this provision of personalised treatment must also be set in the context of the wider public interest,*** in ensuring the health and wellbeing of the wider population in a consistent, controlled and verifiable way. Put simply, it is not about giving patients what they want without proper regard to prevailing standards of care. This is just an outline of the evidence upon which the GMC will seek to rely in the course of the hearing, and it does not restrict or limit the GMC in terms of how the case is to be put on the basis of the evidence served, or called before the tribunal, and nor does it restrict the GMC in terms of the evidence it may seek to call in rebuttal of the defence case.
