Millennials aspire to live in the kind of towns and cities depicted in cartoons of our youth. Walkable hoods with quirky but amicable neighbors. Parks, cool shops, basic goods in easy reach and mobility for even very young people to be enjoyed for generations.

I really want to give a shoutout to my instructor for not allowing us to use Wikipedia on this assignment and to Elon Musk for killing the CIA World Factbook, which is the source she wanted.

My kid was an avid, enthusiastic reader going into middle school & his 7th & 8th grade curriculum was entirely "heavy" books: Every 2-3 weeks was a new book on: Holocaust Family Abuse 9/11 Crushing Poverty South Sudan Famine Horrors of War etc... & its been a struggle to build that back up.

Having ranted about school curriculum books, I’ve just seen my son’s summer reading list, and all I can say is “I was right”. A more depressing collection would be tricky to assemble. Are we actively trying to convey to kids the idea that reading is dismal and arduous?

hotter urbanist take: we should ban left turns *completely* in many places. of all traffic signal phases, left turns are the least productive and serve the least amount of people. they dont work well with median BRT/LRT & transit signal priority, and it limits crossing times for all pedestrians.
