Rather than mocking the jingoism of post-9/11 America on this day as I usually do, I’d like to comment on this: “They hate us for our freedom” is something I heard so many times in the subsequent years. Have you ever asked them which freedoms? It’s pornography, women’s rights, gay rights.

I do wonder if in a generation or two the American white collar industries simply collapse, both as a consequence of being unable to find enough experienced employees to hire and because the devastation of the training pipeline means a degradation of actual expertise/talent.

the thing about this is that this isn't an AI problem. AI is *accelerating* the problem, but industry investment in training, mentoring and developing employees has been waning for decades, what's different is that it's going to hit white collar work in the way it's been hitting the trades for years

Part of why I have such a hard time engaging with anything political is that I tend to 1. think about things in a way that is often wrong 2. argue about things in a mode other people don’t argue in.

Every single trans person on here I have heard comment on this has hated this, probably because this site constantly actions against trans people and never against their bullies with more followers.
