Another aspect of Carved Jesus, Aflame is my desire to express southern queerness, a voice that isn't heard often, and also from a perspective of love for the land. the south is always described as a place to flee. Many can't and shouldn't have to. My desire is to help heal this soil

Also, not for nothing, a lot of people like the *idea* of dark or transgressive art, but don't have the fortitude to engage with it beyond the veneer of gross or weird that gets slapped across a lot of otherwise very muddy, noncommital stories

I always feel like my tastes are pretty safe and bland, until someone hands me a book or movie like "This is so dark and fucked up," and then I find myself doubting what other people find dark and fucked up because damn, son, this is mid-tier nightmare fuel at best
