Just one of the many things that UT has and continues to keep doing to suppress academic freedom. This one hits hard as Dr. Chaar López is my advisor and mentor of the past 6 years. I have grown as a scholar bc of him, and it’s his guidance that has made realize what type of academic I could be.

🚨Lauren Gutterman, former chair of the American Studies department and AAUP UT Austin Chapter VP: “Iván’s case is a warning for all faculty across the university, because it suggests that achieving excellence in your field is no longer enough to secure tenure and promotion.” ⬇️

Feeling v honored and excited to say that I have received an American Doctoral Fellowship from AAUW. This will support the last stretch of writing my diss, an ethnographic project studying the online worlds of diasporic Caribbean women and femmes. For my people and my community, always. #AAUWFellow

Been sitting with how many Black Civil rights leaders bled and died to ge the voting rights act only for it to be struck down by this white supremacist supreme court. This is from bloody Sunday which catalyzed passage of the VRA. It's hard not to shed tears at what we've lost.

Hello, Immigration scholars: Do you have references to academic papers/ books that are not about legal status itself but about the *process* of trying to access a more permanent status from a position of legal liminality? I'm writing on this & found very little. Could that actually be the case?

One of those depts is my dept, American Studies. A whole field which was started AT UT in 1941. These institutions do not matter and do not care for us but this complete disregard for the work and unpaid labor that so many have done for years. This is enraging.

New: In a sweeping restructure, UT-Austin will consolidate four departments, including African and African Diaspora Studies and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, college leaders told department heads Thursday. More than 800 students are pursuing degrees in the affected departments.

Bad Bunny’s performance began in the plantation, featured broken electric poles, and ended by centering a hemispheric understanding of “América”—among many other things—and some Anglo journalists are like “his performance wasn’t political.” This is why we need to be telling our stories.
