i feel this so hard. a realization i had about my career is that i'm basically trying to build towards a world where people build and use technology on their own terms, rather than get used by it. user data ownership is a starting point, but it extends far beyond that.

I don't want technology to be a one-sided conversation. I do not want to impose technology on people. I want them to tell me how technology can serve them better. The only way to do that is by building a foundation of trust and sharing knowledge.

circling back to this because i think it's both! just used @microcosm.blue in conjunction with @habitat.network to quickly get a feature working that needs public + private data intermingled (local-first / without an appview)

but i do think making local-first in atproto easy to build / reliable / usable means growing shared infra in the ecosystem (like microcosm), or making PDS providers a bit beefier. we're going the latter route.

wow was trevor paglen's talk at the sf moma a trip. one message in particular that feels relevant to @habitat.network "the images are now staring back" control over our data means no spying, and no spying means we are all less susceptible to manipulation online. more important now than ever.

if there's anything I've realized over the last month, it's that there are no *technical reasons* we can't have the internet we want. slowly, but surely (leaflet by leaflet) we're building that. a calendar app that can't track you. even with its minimal interface, what a magical feeling 🌱
