My use of AI as a research partner has helped me exceed what I created even a few days ago. I understood audio compression concepts, but couldn't prove the math. AI can take my concepts and go off and prove the math for me way faster that it would take for me to retire and then go back to college.

(1/2) Over the past few nights, I've been coding up audio compression ideas I've had since John Ratcliff released ACOMP in 1992. AI helped with gruntwork, but all algorithms, ideas, and techniques are mine. I've been thinking about them for decades, to occupy my mind to help me drift off to sleep.

I remain amused that Google "Opinion Rewards" is still called that, and still uses terms like "surveys", as it hasn't been about surveys since the pandemic and is only used to train its AI and search offerings. Why do I still participate? To get them to pay for my AI plan. Yes, I am the product.

Anyone using "retro" to describe both has been doing it incorrectly since the beginning. "Vintage" is used to describe things that are actually old. "Retro" is used to describe things that evoke the era of old things.

I've wanted to say something like this before, but have feared the wrath of Sanae. I feel like we need better language than using "retro" to refer to both things that are purely old (as the 360 unquestionably is) and things that follow the conventions of particular periods of history in the medium.

I believe the worst damage social media has done to Gen Z is resisting correcting prior statements in light of new info, ie. a previous statement supported a view, and see opposing facts as an attack on that view. "Feels" mattering more than facts is dangerous for the future of good-faith discourse.
