I'm currently cooking up PicoIDE, a hardware IDE/ATAPI emulator, launching on Crowd Supply: https://www.crowdsupply.com/polpotronics/picoide I also made PicoGUS: https://picog.us Also on Fedi at https://chaos.social/@polpo In Colorado, USA

since oscilloscope graphics are doing the rounds again, here's some photos from that time a few years ago when I built a gizmo to show dril tweets (and assorted other nonsense) on my ancient Tek 466

eric - my latest toy has meandered from code editor to arrangement ui back to code again. the fun thing is theres no synth engine - its just raw functions called at audio rate all the way down. the clicks in this bad vid are because its my laptop's mic recording its own speakers, as I press keys

Also, breaking news about VCF West: If you are there on Saturday, you’ll have the opportunity to buy a (replica) Apple-1 from the Byte Shop’s Paul Terrell, for the first time since he became Apple’s original dealer 50 years ago.

Heading back home after an amazing #Teardown2026. My talk went super well with some great Q&A at the end, I saw a lot of great talks, met a lot of people in person I’ve only talked to online, met a lot of awesome new people, and learned a lot!

So, it did arrive and now I can say for certain that thanks to @polpo.org being just an amazing human being and graciously letting me loan a unit pre-release…I’ll have a PicoIDE Deluxe unit on demo in my Windows 98 build for #VCFWest! Very, very stoked about this and can’t wait to get it rolling.

A PicoIDE, from the front. In a 3D printed enclosure. A PicoIDE from the top with the PCB more visible.

A sticker is nearby it.

I just saw a meme that said “get in losers, we’re reclaiming the emdash”. People. PEOPLE. Where are your STANDARDS? It CLEARLY should be “get in, losers — we’re reclaiming the em dash.”

My MCGA+ core for the Graphics Gremlin HDMI may as well have the kitchen sink because in addition to the MCGA modes, it has enough of the VGA for modes 12h, “X” and “Y” as well as an isolated MDA on the hardwired 2 bits per channel HDMI. Releasing soon.

The closest mall to where I grew up is now torn down, but amazingly someone on Flickr took a photo of the former Babbage's when the mall was in its "dead mall" state. Those windows had screens where I saw Wing Commander and heard a Sound Blaster for the first time. My life was changed in this spot.

An empty mall storefront. The entrance has a closed gate over it. You can see the ghost of the "Babbage's" sign above it. There are glass windows on the right that jut out.

The mall in town had a Babbage's and an Electronics Boutique simultaneously for like two years. EB eventually became GameStop, B's closed, and then EB (as GS) moved to the former B's. I can only imagine that this is how previous generations explained the plot of soap operas to one another.

Anybody in our orbit good at CAD/CAM stuff and have a lil free time for a project? I’d like to get these covers for our 5XB made. I can get exact measurements but I do not have the ability to turn them into something that a manufacturer wants :/
