since oscilloscope graphics are doing the rounds again, here's some photos from that time a few years ago when I built a gizmo to show dril tweets (and assorted other nonsense) on my ancient Tek 466
eric - my latest toy has meandered from code editor to arrangement ui back to code again. the fun thing is theres no synth engine - its just raw functions called at audio rate all the way down. the clicks in this bad vid are because its my laptop's mic recording its own speakers, as I press keys
Also, breaking news about VCF West: If you are there on Saturday, you’ll have the opportunity to buy a (replica) Apple-1 from the Byte Shop’s Paul Terrell, for the first time since he became Apple’s original dealer 50 years ago.
If you're in the Bay Area and want to check out a prerelease PicoIDE in action, go to VCF West and check out Xodium's booth!
All set up. Tomorrow comes. Also come try out @polpo.org’s amazing PicoIDE! With the web interface pulled up on an iPad! It’s Pretty Neat™.

Heading back home after an amazing #Teardown2026. My talk went super well with some great Q&A at the end, I saw a lot of great talks, met a lot of people in person I’ve only talked to online, met a lot of awesome new people, and learned a lot!
On Saturday's noon EDT stream, we're going to play with @polpo.org 's latest invention: the PicoIDE (a Raspberry Pi-based IDE emulator). The goal is to add this to my wood / glass /enameled wire single board 486. Let's see how easy / hard it is to set up and use! youtube.com/live/AFylWhS...

So, it did arrive and now I can say for certain that thanks to @polpo.org being just an amazing human being and graciously letting me loan a unit pre-release…I’ll have a PicoIDE Deluxe unit on demo in my Windows 98 build for #VCFWest! Very, very stoked about this and can’t wait to get it rolling.

I just saw a meme that said “get in losers, we’re reclaiming the emdash”. People. PEOPLE. Where are your STANDARDS? It CLEARLY should be “get in, losers — we’re reclaiming the em dash.”
New PicoIDE update on Crowd Supply! Injection mold samples! And announcing the Open Retro Storage Front Panel project, which explains why the samples say "BlueSCSI" instead of "PicoIDE." www.crowdsupply.com/polpotronics...
Enclosure Samples
I promised an update once I received the samples for the injection molded case, so now I’m happy to share what they look like!

oops, i cloned another sound card! this is the Beavis Ultrasound, an open source clone of the Gravis Ultrasound PnP. yes, i know there are already clones of this card, but mine provides the full schematic and matches the original board layout. github.com/schlae/Beavi...
My MCGA+ core for the Graphics Gremlin HDMI may as well have the kitchen sink because in addition to the MCGA modes, it has enough of the VGA for modes 12h, “X” and “Y” as well as an isolated MDA on the hardwired 2 bits per channel HDMI. Releasing soon.
The closest mall to where I grew up is now torn down, but amazingly someone on Flickr took a photo of the former Babbage's when the mall was in its "dead mall" state. Those windows had screens where I saw Wing Commander and heard a Sound Blaster for the first time. My life was changed in this spot.
The mall in town had a Babbage's and an Electronics Boutique simultaneously for like two years. EB eventually became GameStop, B's closed, and then EB (as GS) moved to the former B's. I can only imagine that this is how previous generations explained the plot of soap operas to one another.
Anybody in our orbit good at CAD/CAM stuff and have a lil free time for a project? I’d like to get these covers for our 5XB made. I can get exact measurements but I do not have the ability to turn them into something that a manufacturer wants :/
I recently had the opportunity to interview the grandsons of Carl Weller, the inventor of the soldering gun. They were kind enough to share never-before-published family photos and parts of the story that nobody has written about before. www.digikey.com/en/emedia/em...

About to go on a trip, so time to get the Polaroid out again and burn through my film stash. The 669 expired in 2008 so we’ll see how it does Crossposted with @openvibe.social
Your eyes do not deceive you! The cat's out of the bag: I've been collaborating with the @bluescsi.com project to make the enclosure and front panel originally designed for PicoIDE common to both! I collabed with @eric.scsi.blue on code and @gutbomb.net did the 3D design. jcm-1.com/product/blue...
Here is something you don't see everyday. Someone sent this crazy thing in for repair, very odd led sign That's not built well at all
Here's an update on how production is going for PicoIDE: www.crowdsupply.com/polpotronics... Spoilers: a bit slower than expected (we've missed the ship date for the earliest batch), but things are moving along.

I've never reballed a chip. I don't have a stencil. I don't have a heater to do this properly. But I need to re-468-ball this Intel 440BX northbridge, so come point and laugh as I struggle Wednesday at 3:00 EDT. youtube.com/live/7jRdGk2...
