The excesses of the Woke 1 era mostly amount to cringe public statements, harmless vocabulary updates and loss of prestige for public figures. The backlash to Woke 1, on the other hand, is imprisoning dissidents, dismantling public education and eroding democracy. That's what needs reckoning

Today in @thenation.com: a harrowing piece written from inside the Dilley ICE detention center by Maryam Tahmasebi, a green card holder who's been locked up along with her husband and son for months despite none of them committing any crime. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

One Woman’s Message From the Hell of ICE Detention

My husband, son, and I have been locked up for months—despite being permanent residents with no criminal record. It is an unendurable, unending nightmare.

Recently, critical comments about LGBT people every day make me very sad. LGBT people just want to love whom they love and live proudly as themselves—why treat that as a demand? Living as a human is a right and shouldn’t be restricted by male and female genders🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

On Monday, President Trump signed an executive order that calls for reducing the number of recommended childhood vaccines. History has shown how plagues from the past can roar back when trust in shots — or access to them — falters. Revisit our March investigation:

The health secretary is spreading doubts about vaccine safety and considering changes that could prompt manufacturers to flee the U.S. market. History has shown how plagues from the past can roar back...

We need to prosecute white collar crime in the US with utter ruthlessness and zeal. One of the reasons we’re here (pick the “here” hellscape you prefer) is because we not only socially but legally accepted elite impunity.

Just gonna bang the drum again about Trump's money laundering history. There's a pretty clear pattern here going back 30+ years involving repeated fines, closed accounts, etc. It may actually be their longest running grift.

College kids defacing a McDonalds during a climate change rally lead to calls to call in the tanks, whereas coke-head wife beaters trying to burn refugees alive get sorrowful expressions of sympathy for their "legitimate underlying concerns" and "lads with strong feelings, what can you do?" shrug.

This cruelty has no need but cruelty. Haiti remains deeply dangerous; a country in the throes of anarchy. Hundreds of thousands of people are SAFE. They are safe. They are safe here and the nation has decided to make them unsafe. We are embarking on a tragedy and we cannot look away. We cannot.

So many immigrants I've interviewed break down about this. "Monsanto Maler was one of several Haitian immigrants who traveled from Springfield for a check in...after an ankle monitor was attached to him, Maler was seen collapsing to the ground and crying." www.springfieldnewssun.com/local/hundre...
