Welcome to the ParmaJohns family, where we sell more than decorative cheese graters, we sell... an idea. Audio from "D&D Court: Stolen Spells, Petulant Paladins, and Whacked Werehippos!" To hear the full tangent that inspired this short, listen to the D&D Court Collection at Patreon.com/Naddpod!

I dont have proof but i feel like the online research has gotten harder as sites counter data-scraping I cant access chemical safety info without an approved account for a lot of suppliers 20+ year old papers are now paywalled. Outside of modern open access journals I cant find, like, any freebies

Lichtenstein’s entire oeuvre was offensively shallow and profit-motivated from the jump. His original premise of recontextualizing “low art” was done better, earlier, and with way more joyful subversiveness by Marcel Duchamp, AND he lacked the skill to even render the work he supposedly “elevated.”

I'd never seen this Roy Lichtenstein painting before, but it's incredible how he manages unfailingly to make his copies worse than the original comics he's ripping off.

A drab pop art painting of a sinister man driving a car, watching a stoic blonde in leopard print fur. The proportions of the guy's face are off

the hardest thing for the politician-bureaucrats to understand -- but which NSF staff *absolutely do* understand and always have -- is that you actually make scientific progress by giving young people money and promising not to bother them

Mark Histed@markhisted.org · 4w ago

Scientist here: It is widely known inside science that this—top-down imposition of a research agenda—leads to mostly rote, boring, non-innovative work. Building an institute to do discovery science is hard: you hire young people, put them together, hope synergies arise and ideas fall out.

“manageable crisis” A childhood friend of mine is an ICU nurse in Detroit They kept running out of bodybags Its disappointing but not surprising how many people spent the pandemic just posting and complaining about not going out to restaurants. They assume it was uneventful for everyone

MAGA/MAHA sycophants now claim that because mitigation measures worked 6 years ago, this is proof they were unnecessary. The stupid, it burns.

Covid stressed many hospitals but almost everywhere it was a manageable crisis. In the spring of 2020, our system shut down almost all outpatient and “non-emergency” medical care before we had a single covid patient, anticipating a tsunami of cases that never came. Our peak covid census was <150 in a 900 bed hospital. We had hundreds of empty beds, empty clinics, and many laid off staff and sidelined physicians who had their practices closed. Millions of routine vaccinations, cancer screenings and treatments, delayed cardiac procedures. Panicking and terrifying the public was a mistake that made a bad situation much worse.
