A text based network installation of x86 Fedora in a VM needs 1.5 GBs - don’t they know how much RAM costs these days??!

@saemg.bsky.social this blog post from Marc Brooker articulates clearly what I was trying to share Tuesday evening brooker.co.za/blog/2026/06... - “But I think that asking people to read LLM-generated text breaks a kind of social contract. …”

With the closure on Broadway, drivers are rat running along 10th and completely ignoring the modal filter on Manitoba St, so we tried adding our own sign maybe it will help 😭 Or... the City could actually do something? (Meeting with them tomorrow!)
Days since someone on a bike was last hit at 10th and Main: re-set to 0 again. We have a meeting with the city about this in 6 days. Hopefully we can hold at 5 cyclist crashes (that we know of) between now and then.
I live two blocks from the detour on Manitoba a block west of Ontario and I’ve biked by after two accidents at Broadway and Ontario. I just emailed them with this video clip showing 40 vehicles ignoring a no entry sign to rat run up to 10th during a 30 min period last month.
Today I have been unable to shake the idea that there is significant overlap between the Ralph Wiggum Loop and William Basinski’s Disintegration Loops. Speaking of which I need to clear out some junk records and pick up the reissue on vinyl.
Working on a side project I realized my fast personal machines are aarch64 (M1 MacBook Air and a few rpi4s with ssds). The x86_64 ones are slow (a 1 vCPU/1 GB ram VPS and a NAS with an old Celeron and HDDs). I installed Fedora on my kids old laptop this evening, hearing cpu fans is quaint.
I’m still gathering my thoughts on vibe coding. To see if there is a difference between $work tools and and competitors I built a small website for a personal niche with Claude code. If anyone is into biking and skiing in around Vancouver www.vbss.ca might be helpful.

Editor’s note: This was the last internal document I wrote at Amazon. It was written with the mentees, mentors, and friends I left in mind. But the response was really positive, and it seems to have r...

@anibyl.social.coop.ap.brid.gy being of European origin, tech worker and on a Canadian passport I have had no issues travelling for work - but I do only stick to major cities. I still try to either get the train or fly so I can do pre clearance in Canada, just in case.

Canada has many flaws. We should be proud of Canadian Multiculturalism (1971), which federally recognizes the diversity and validity of all cultures which make up Canada; Israeli and Palestinian included. @kneecapceol.bsky.social are artists, not terrorists and should be welcomed back not banned.

Every Canadian Election I approach different party leaders. Mark Carney & Jagmeet Singh did interviews but I’m still waiting to hear back from Pierre Poilievre. I’ll keep trying though. I won’t give up. Cuz that’s what I do. Here’s Elizabeth May youtu.be/Q3yyCjOFDu4

The “Welcome to the United States of America!” sms when you cross the border and start roaming doesn’t seem as cheery these days!

Ahhhh! I lost my daily streak on Good Sudoku! This and a slight sunburn are honestly the only downside to deciding to ignore my phone and spending a day outside in the sun while jet lagged on a work trip, heading to the office this morning so hopefully I can ignore my phone again today!
www.theverge.com/2025/1/1/243... listening to dopesmoker and the winner back to back sounds like a great way to spend my first afternoon of the year. I will have to negotiate with the dog though - she probably disagrees
Is Sleep’s Dopesmoker still the heaviest album of all time?

This is a truly magical project that reminds me of what the Internet is good for. (I haven’t listened to it all yet, but I will next time I have a quiet evening/night to myself)
Hey, remember that really stupid idea I had a few weeks back? A six-and-a-half-hour supercut of live "Marquee Moon" solos? I finished it and wrote about it here.
I’m in Cape Town for work this week, I hoped work, jet lag and being ten hours ahead of Vancouver time would help insulate me from “all this” - bah
