The continued right-wing takeover of media (traditional media, social media, etc.) is one of the most depressing things happening in the world right now. It makes affecting positive, progressive change on any issue more difficult.

People often talk about how overturning Roe v Wade was a decades-long Republican effort that eventually paid off for them in a big way. What's happening with media right now is a similar long-term campaign of theirs that's paying off.

And arguably failed even on that, because what we'll remember is that four justices were willing to throw out the plain meaning of the text and 150 years of precedent in favor of some third-rate academic's unsupported bullshit.

...and, predictably, the current headlines at NYT, WaPo, and the Guardian are all "SCOTUS upholds birthright citizenship" and not "4 justices are certifiably insane."

It has been a real journey over my 47 years from "literally reading the literal words of the Constitution is the only correct interpretation" to opinions that basically read like sugar packet snippets of Boomer Dad American history as jurisprudence.

The thing you need to understand is that there are 2 (TWO) different method for amending the constitution 1) The process laid out in the constititon itself (conventions, or 2/3's of both houses followed by 3/4 of states ratifying) OR 2) find five votes on the Supreme Court.

This is *exactly* what happened after the reconstruction amendments were added to the constitution and then, basically, deleted by the Plessy court.
