Had a friend have purse stolen IN FRONT of the police and they did nothing. At all. “He’ll never be caught.” And she started screaming at them and they gave HER a charge of assaulting an officer.
NYTimes: affirmative action for mediocre editors angry at MeToo

"Every day I have to marvel at what the billionaires and Fox News pulled off. They got working whites to hate the very people that want them to have more pay, clean air, water, free healthcare and the power to fight back against big banks & big corps."
I solved a crime for Philly’s 14th (rash of stolen bikes well over the $2k larceny threshold) & they still wouldn’t do anything. I had all the evidence—texts, camera photos, social posts—& zip. When my car was broken into? “Don’t call us unless someone is holding a gun to your head.” ACAB
"Police solve just 2% of all major crimes" "Arrests at End of Shifts to Rake In Overtime Pay $500,000 a year salaries "One-third of all Americans killed by strangers are killed by police "White nationalists pervade law enforcement 10,000 family dogs killed by police every year (DOJ: "epidemic")
Things that make you go huh 🤔 Chico spends 48.7% of it’s budget on the Police Department. By comparison, NYC spends 7.7%, Los Angeles 25.5% and Chicago comes in high at 37%.

All the Fauci stuff is a modern day version of the POW/MIA stuff after Vietnam - a way to try to rewrite the history of a huge failure of conservative ideology to be instead a story about how liberals and foreigners stabbed us in the back.
NYT (Shawn McCreesh hired from Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller): "Dr. Fauci’s diary reads like a black comedy of manners 79-year-old social-climbing scientist As the death toll rises, so too does the doctor’s status and self-regard. He falls in with a fast crowd and becomes consumed by his own image"

Months I put up with these people’s nonsense. Months.
Here you will find the moment when Graham Platner’s own recruiter took all the respect and credibility of his allies — at Pod Save America and legions of other pod bros — and set it on fire. thehill.com/homenews/cam...

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.
And just from a dad’s perspective, it seems to me one of the explicit aims here is to make black girls feel like they are ugly. Like why else are you angry about a black little mermaid. And yes I take that shit personal.
While Black Americans more "American" than whites: "typical black American has much deeper American roots than the typical white American Trump himself, whose grandparents all foreign-born, is an excellent example of relatively shallow white American roots" www.niskanencenter.org/logic-populi...

I feel like it should be a bigger deal that the Trump administration clearly approved the Ellison takeover of WB/Discovery in part so he could manipulate the news and push CNN (more) to the right.
TAPPER: I know you don't want to talk about any other issues out of respect for Lindsey Graham, but we would love to have you back sometime bc I do have a lot of other questions TRUMP: Sure. We're trying to have CNN go on a normal path T: I'm on a normal path right here, sir TRUMP: Good. You are.
The continued right-wing takeover of media (traditional media, social media, etc.) is one of the most depressing things happening in the world right now. It makes affecting positive, progressive change on any issue more difficult.
People often talk about how overturning Roe v Wade was a decades-long Republican effort that eventually paid off for them in a big way. What's happening with media right now is a similar long-term campaign of theirs that's paying off.
waiting until the last decision on the last day to reveal a big consequential outcome like it’s Best Picture instead of existential for real people is bullshit
Roberts is hoping we'll remember that the Court "stood up to Trump" on birthright citizenship and forget about all of the other shit they pulled.
And arguably failed even on that, because what we'll remember is that four justices were willing to throw out the plain meaning of the text and 150 years of precedent in favor of some third-rate academic's unsupported bullshit.
...and, predictably, the current headlines at NYT, WaPo, and the Guardian are all "SCOTUS upholds birthright citizenship" and not "4 justices are certifiably insane."
this is really just utterly appalling, we’re at the point where people who know better (Gorsuch) can dismantle the Trump lawyers in oral arguments and vote for them anyway because fuck you that’s why packing the court is the practical solution, they should be impeached, removed and disbarred
I’m willing to accept their resignations to take death penalty charges off the table for them.
Moderate position. I want drawn and quartered on the table.
ilan wurman is all over thomas' dissent. congrats to the worm man. he did it.
Final #SCOTUS ruling is birthright citizenship. For a 6-3 majority (Thomas, Alito & Gorsuch, dissenting), Chief Justice Roberts *strikes down* President Trump's executive order purporting to limit which individuals born in the United States would automatically be US citizens; preserves status quo:
anyway i think the proper takeaway here is that a bare majority of the court thinks the plain words of the 14th amendment mean what they say, that four members believe there is a secret hidden meaning only recently discovered by hack lawyers
It has been a real journey over my 47 years from "literally reading the literal words of the Constitution is the only correct interpretation" to opinions that basically read like sugar packet snippets of Boomer Dad American history as jurisprudence.
5-4 for what it explicitly says in the constitution is incredible. They were this close to undoing the civil war entirely. bsky.app/profile/mjsd...
The Supreme Court strikes down Trump's attack on birthright citizenship. By a 5–4 vote, it holds that the 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to children born of unauthorized and temporary immigrants. Roberts and Barrett join the three liberals. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...
The thing you need to understand is that there are 2 (TWO) different method for amending the constitution 1) The process laid out in the constititon itself (conventions, or 2/3's of both houses followed by 3/4 of states ratifying) OR 2) find five votes on the Supreme Court.
This is *exactly* what happened after the reconstruction amendments were added to the constitution and then, basically, deleted by the Plessy court.
Four justices don’t believe the reconstruction amendments are part of the Constitution, simple as
If the political parties were reversed, every Repub would be loudly screaming how these judges literally hate America and the Constitution. Ironically, in our actual reality, these judges actually do hate America and the Constitution but we're supposed to treat them as legitimate jurists.
you see the difference between Iran and America is that in one country ultimate power lies with a cabal of robed theocrats that pays only lip service to democracy, whereas the other is in the Middle East.
The real blackpill was learning that the Guardianship Council is more accountable and limited than the Supreme Court.
