NYTimes: affirmative action for mediocre editors angry at MeToo

@originalist.bsky.social

"Every day I have to marvel at what the billionaires and Fox News pulled off. They got working whites to hate the very people that want them to have more pay, clean air, water, free healthcare and the power to fight back against big banks & big corps."

Had a friend have purse stolen IN FRONT of the police and they did nothing. At all. “He’ll never be caught.” And she started screaming at them and they gave HER a charge of assaulting an officer.

I solved a crime for Philly’s 14th (rash of stolen bikes well over the $2k larceny threshold) & they still wouldn’t do anything. I had all the evidence—texts, camera photos, social posts—& zip. When my car was broken into? “Don’t call us unless someone is holding a gun to your head.” ACAB

All the Fauci stuff is a modern day version of the POW/MIA stuff after Vietnam - a way to try to rewrite the history of a huge failure of conservative ideology to be instead a story about how liberals and foreigners stabbed us in the back.

NYT (Shawn McCreesh hired from Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller): "Dr. Fauci’s diary reads like a black comedy of manners 79-year-old social-climbing scientist As the death toll rises, so too does the doctor’s status and self-regard. He falls in with a fast crowd and becomes consumed by his own image"

NYT Shawn McCreesh (college swimmer whose only experience was Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller for a year, was one of multiple Maureen Dowd assistants promoted to top reporters assigned to covering Trump, hiring announcement seems just as shocked by white mediocre "meritocracy" of NYT editors and owner):

More than 1,100 pages long and dating from 2019 to 2022, Dr. Fauci’s diary reads like a black comedy of manners in which a 79-year-old social-climbing scientist becomes the face of the government’s response to a pandemic and then the toast of the town — the toast of this town. As the death toll rises, so too does the doctor’s status and self-regard. He falls in with a fast crowd and becomes consumed by his own image.

It’s like Thackeray’s Vanity Fair crossed with The Plague by Camus."If there were still a public editor at the Times, they might have written about a White House correspondent doing a newsless beat-sweetener hit piece on a target of the president's ire.

But you know, Twitter's the public editor now, so ...

There's plenty to criticize about Fauci and his work during the pandemic, but "lol this guy thought meeting Venus Williams was worthy of putting in his private diary, what an asshole" is not one of them."

On May 11, 2020, Dr. Fauci wrote: "Hilarious video of Billy Crystal playing me in a Trump dungeon prison,” with a link to this video.

Hovering over it all was the pandemic that would leave more than a million Americans dead.

“I’m supposed to go to an even bigger black tie affair at the home of the French ambassador tomorrow,” Dr. Fauci wrote in November 2021. “I think I am going to cancel out since I don’t want to go through the nerve-wracking experience that I did last night worrying about having gotten infected.”

Shawn McCreesh is a White House reporter for The Times covering the Trump administration.

This hack's partner is the hack at vanity fair who hired his best friend who's the hack who was fucking every source she could while cheating on the hack who was her then boyfriend

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.

And just from a dad’s perspective, it seems to me one of the explicit aims here is to make black girls feel like they are ugly. Like why else are you angry about a black little mermaid. And yes I take that shit personal.

The continued right-wing takeover of media (traditional media, social media, etc.) is one of the most depressing things happening in the world right now. It makes affecting positive, progressive change on any issue more difficult.

People often talk about how overturning Roe v Wade was a decades-long Republican effort that eventually paid off for them in a big way. What's happening with media right now is a similar long-term campaign of theirs that's paying off.

And arguably failed even on that, because what we'll remember is that four justices were willing to throw out the plain meaning of the text and 150 years of precedent in favor of some third-rate academic's unsupported bullshit.

this is really just utterly appalling, we’re at the point where people who know better (Gorsuch) can dismantle the Trump lawyers in oral arguments and vote for them anyway because fuck you that’s why packing the court is the practical solution, they should be impeached, removed and disbarred

anyway i think the proper takeaway here is that a bare majority of the court thinks the plain words of the 14th amendment mean what they say, that four members believe there is a secret hidden meaning only recently discovered by hack lawyers

It has been a real journey over my 47 years from "literally reading the literal words of the Constitution is the only correct interpretation" to opinions that basically read like sugar packet snippets of Boomer Dad American history as jurisprudence.

The thing you need to understand is that there are 2 (TWO) different method for amending the constitution 1) The process laid out in the constititon itself (conventions, or 2/3's of both houses followed by 3/4 of states ratifying) OR 2) find five votes on the Supreme Court.

If the political parties were reversed, every Repub would be loudly screaming how these judges literally hate America and the Constitution. Ironically, in our actual reality, these judges actually do hate America and the Constitution but we're supposed to treat them as legitimate jurists.

you see the difference between Iran and America is that in one country ultimate power lies with a cabal of robed theocrats that pays only lip service to democracy, whereas the other is in the Middle East.
