I've been publishing for long enough now to get a pattern of criticism. I'm so goddamn proud to be the author whose too weird for some people.

I may be a windbag but don't worry I also love to be the stupidest person in the room
10,000 SWORDS AGAINST HEAVEN is a southeast asian esoteric marxist-leninist technoccultic tropical gothic science fantasy take on xianxia and spirit cultivation. play as kung fu commies, daoist grenadiers, buddhist gunwitches, digital devil wizards, all against the heavens
Relevant again the fallout to the HWA newsletter
one of the signal features of both AI writing and the listicle/buzzfeed/reddit updoot style it was trained on - the thing that actually makes it so distinct and unpleasant - is a vague desperation to be heard and seen accompanied by apparent disinclination to truly surprise the audience
So apparently that HWA pro-AI newsletter also uses Indigenous water rights issues as a prop, trivializing the activism by Indigenous peoples to protect our water including specific anti-data centre actions. I guess they figured why not alienate Indigenous horror writers while they’re at it?
“There’s no ethical consumption under capitalism” wasn’t meant to be a warm blanket to wrap themselves in that these grifters always treat it as.
Being the finance lead for rascal the last year has been a gradually worsening job, only because I have to be the bearer of bad news each month as the global economy gets worse and worse. If you want Rascal to continue to exist for years to come, we need your support

She concludes by saying nobody even knows what AI is and that's why she's pro-AI
There is a lengthy pro-AI screed in the latest HWA newsletter and it is . . . a mood.
Been thinking alot about BACKMASK as pulp fiction as a genre indicator similar to dark academia. Even the Tarantino film sought to capture the Amrrican noir elements of the late 50s/early 60s paperback thriller novels about crime and corruption
"AI is functionally useless for disciplines surrounding human cognition" seems to be really tough for certain people to handle.

Pretty fucked up and sad because the Horrors keep persisting!
You’re going to want to read the Women of the Weird West anthology, which features Indigenous authors (myself and Mathilda Zeller) and many other woc doing interesting things with the genre
I think the abandonment of indigenous elements in peoples weird west setting because they don't want to confront the uncomfortable specter of colonialism and the hollywood indian, let alone get in the way of their fun, is cowardice and contributes to the erasure that often defines indigenous racism.
Three months ago two guys came into my local pub, threw chairs, threatened people, and blocked the door. All the staff kept saying "morally I'm against it, but I'm calling the police." The cops took two hours to arrive and then did nothing.
It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.
Why do we consistently call them 'the Sea People' and not re-translate the phrase as, like........................................... pirates?
I didn’t do anything special to deserve a treat this week, but I just asked my local bookshop to order a copy for me 😌
