I'm pretty confident that certain online people are going to be cheering about how they were right all along on Nanotyrannus. Their take will be that they were right all along and their arguments, based on private specimens of uncertain provenance, photos of things without scale bars, and ideas...

"To any Americans wondering if democracy is lost or if they can ever make a difference, I’d say this: If the Trump administration was this afraid of one senator w/a question, imagine what the voices of tens of millions of Americans organizing will do." @padilla.senate.gov

(On a personal note, while dodos are fascinating, they're also v. depressing to paint. We wiped out these remarkable birds so fast that we didn't even collect decent specimens for museums, and it's difficult not to continually reflect on our awful, callous attitudes when researching such animals.

Thank you!! 💚✊ We asked you to record everything, photos, videos, all of it, and you showed up. You helped us capture the truth. So proud of every one of you. Tomorrow, there will be more of us. We love you all!

Trump even admitted he knew Elon had a drug problem and still gave him access to America’s most sensitive information. You’d think DOGE would be dismantled, not embedded. You’d think Elon’s staffers would be investigated. But nothing is happening. Something is off.

The blowup between Elon and Trump hasn’t ended DOGE, it’s still expanding. Russ Vought now plans to institutionalize DOGE across the federal government, and Elon’s staffers are embedded deep within key agencies.

This is not about saving money, this is about weakening a class of people who have been trained to think independently, are used to speaking out, and whose voices are respected and listened to. This isn’t an economic move, it’s a political one. The aim is to hamstring dissenters.

something that stands out about this is just how cheap it is for us to have world-leading scientific capacity we spent ~6.75 trillion last year, and the combined budgets for NIH, NSF and NASA are barely more than 1% of that what an incredible waste to lose it all for a drop in the bucket
