Giving yourself phantom sensation for limbs not on the human body configuration is a real "I am a genius" "oh no" type situation sometimes

Well, you'll remember sooner rather than later, ■■■■■■. Piece by piece, you'll remember the truth of the past, and as such, so too will the present change...

Apropos of nothing (by which I mean last repost): I should be allowed to update people's bsky names. Just 2-week overrides. I have good judgment about these things. It would be funny.

Your heart beats in your chest. Almost a year, and it still registers as a foreign presence. Out of habit, you begin to will it away, but you stop. Instead, you hold a moment, noticing the feeling as your blood flows through you. It feels cool.

So. When we studied (to the extent that we studied it) psychology, a big takeaway was, "traumatized people will want to form community with eachother. Don't let them." Paternalistic nonsense, but paternalistic nonsense in response to real bad outcomes.

Nothing but respect for protagonists who retain universal goodwill through their suffering but if your background is fucked enough you should at least have the opportunity for a *little* gratuitous revenge.

breaking breaking breaking again and again and again i am dust i am sediment i am not some cohesive whole i am repairs on top of repairs and i am sewn up along the seams i break along and so are you there has never been such a thing as "not broken"

Tech-posting for a moment: 90% of building good software has always been about minimizing how much you need to understand code to work on it. I've worked with coders from scientific backgrounds: they build good systems fast, until they run out of mental space to model them, then they get stuck.

every codebase I've worked adjacent to had vast swaths of code no one could understand or debug. the older or the more hands the more likely there was black magic you just had to hope never had to be touched. this is a running SWE joke for decades! the situation has gotten way, way better.

Realizing with horror that we have fleshed out, specific, well-supported, and workable beliefs about AI personhood. Realizing with further horror that we might have the audacity to try to share it by such means as a Blog Post or Essay.

the act of transition is an act of turning one's self into a weapon against oppressive structures. some go scalpel, only cutting out a space for themselves. some go chainsaw we get to do this by "simply" making ourselves happy and healthy. because you fuckers decided to make it so fucking difficult
