@pascaleexeter.bsky.social said this about the collaboration: 'Holly used her design skills to produce two alternative models...the models have transformed and refined how we can imagine those plays in performance and have taught us to ask new questions of the plays and the performance space.'
I just watched/listened to this entire video, & am so impressed, moved, indeed near tears at what Ruby has produced: a testament to her, and also to what she learned at Exeter w/ brilliant tutors. Please do listen, & act!
Have you watched Ruby's video standing up for English and Humanities/Social Sciences/Arts subjects yet? She's a brilliant former student of mine who's pulled out all the stops to help with our campaign. She even convinced me to film a segment 🫣. Watch, sign and share! youtu.be/3HKCsUUsUNs?...

My piece today in The Spectator on the dramatic cuts proposed at Exeter University and the real perils of sacrificing the humanities.

Fantastic video! Please watch, share, get behind #Humanities #UKHE & sign the petition to #DefendExeterUni "You can do university without the buildings ... but you can't do it without the tutors."

We need to talk about this more. We’re in a climate emergency and it’s caused, among other things, by out-of-control corporate spending in elections. Thank you @abdulelsayed.bsky.social for connecting the dots!
A happy conclusion to a gruelling day. The Aare washes off all the gremlins - and it's never been so warm! (That's less good)
I've signed and sent a letter - from authors, broadcasters, journalists, artists, scholars and performers - to express our deep concern at @exeter.ac.uk’s troubling plans to make mass redundancies within the Humanities Dept @uniofexeterhass.bsky.social. I would love it if you read and shared widely.
Easily over 30,000 signatures. Do we already have a Parliamentary petition for all of #UKHE? Now would be the time to get parents, employers, local communities, as well as students & staff to tell Parliament that if they want growth & regional revival, they're going to have stop cutting the engines.
Who's not signed this petition yet? Please help us out! The official line is that this is not targeting Arts and Humanities. So why are 85% of cuts in these subjects? #DefendExeterUni c.org/DTcBbvqxn6
These cuts are appalling. Let’s make clear they will not be tolerated!

I am beyond disbelief
The Department for Education has confirmed that universities will receive £50.9 million less in teaching grants next academic year. Bridget Phillipson, the education minister has defended the reduction in light of tuition fee rises. https://ow.ly/6UWJ50ZkLlf
BRISMES Council has written to the VC of @exeter.ac.uk to express our deep concern about the proposed reductions to academic posts in the Humanities and the Social Sciences, including within the Institute of Arab & Islamic Studies (IAIS). Read our letter: bit.ly/3SZnsS7 1/2
Just imagine what the sector could do if we weren't being constantly dismantled from within and denied any support from without. The mind boggles.
'Students’ positivity about all aspects of UK higher education courses has increased despite the problems facing the sector, according to the latest National Student Survey (NSS) results.' 80.9% positivity, up from 78.4% last year. So go on, sack us. 1/3
This stuff is just utterly normal at universities now.
did I tell you the one about the emails that would be sent before 4.30pm and if you didn't get one you were not at risk? well some of them actually came the next morning
'The lords know the problems because everybody can see the problems. Some peers are particularly astute at calculating the damage being done. Yet there was an air to this debate of a bunch of clever people discussing climate change in an air-conditioned room while it is 38 degrees outside.' 1/2
The House of Lords fiddled while Exeter burns
At last week’s HE debate, a host of Oxford-associated grandees made the usual points while the sector continued to melt down, says Andrew McRae

Nearly 30,000 signatures. Almost as if pretending nobody cares about what your cuts inflicting on #UKHE is backfiring a little, @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social ? Time for a different strategy and actually act on the responsibility you have?

I'm really trying extremely hard not to obsess about this, to carry on with the work I've committed to doing, to concentrate. But the mental loading that comes from suddenly fearing that your job could be taken away, or that of the person in the office next door, is just so disruptive. Any advice?
