Listening to this new remix of Rubber Soul, and we’re properly into diminishing returns territory now, aren’t we?

Music, theatre, movies, that sort of thing. I’ll try not to be intemperate. Really.
Recent conversation with @emmylounib.bsky.social about modern dating. Me: I don’t think I would do well on the apps. I’m too reserved. Her: Mm hmmm. Me: And too sensitive. Her: Yeah. pause Her: And you’re a bit of a cunt. Ah, marriage.
“I’m not going to tell anyone what to do.” Less than a minute passes. “You’d have to be a bit of a prick to pass a picket if you’re going to benefit from a pay deal.”
Michael Powell was born on this day in 1905. He started his career in Nice working with director Rex Ingram in a range of capacities. For THE MAGICIAN (1926), based on Somerset Maugham’s novel, he worked as Ingram’s assistant - and as an uncredited actor (here with Gladys Hamer).
It is quite funny that what was seen at the time as a late career high point turns out to have been a mid career high point.
Bob Dylan released his thirteenth studio album "Time Out Of Mind" #OTD 1997 on Columbia Records.
One of the great things about being an Irish member of Unite is watching our union leadership constantly picking the most idiotic fights with the Labour Party in Britain.

Is this absurd MUGA Orange posturing in Drumcree in some sense a backlash against the feelgood inclusivity of the Fleadh?
“Can you get Angel Delight anymore?” “I doubt it. I’m pretty sure it was just whipped asbestos and E numbers.”
“Dad, I want to make one of my Sylvanians look tough.” “That seems a bit unlikely, love.” I stand corrected.
Listening to some of the people who spoke at that festival of cranks and miscreants in Moate last night, I feel that “carbon tax” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in terms of everything that has gone wrong in their lives.
Heck of a morning for an under-8s girls’ football match. Oh, and I don’t have the car, so we’re cycling there.
I know everyone (certainly on Bluesky) loves to complain about the Irish Times, but Conor Gallagher really is an outstanding reporter. I’m not sure that he gets enough credit.
If your whole approach to road safety is premised on doing nothing that inconveniences motorists in any way and insisting that everyone not in a car should wear hi vis, you can’t really complain that you’re getting blamed for the rising death toll.
Road safety minister blames ‘everyone involved’, including road users, for rising death toll
I often think of the exchange I once had with a Garda at the corner of the North Circular Road and Dorset St. When I pointed to the car that had just almost knocked me down as I crossed at a green pedestrian light, he replied, “Ah, sure I could stand here all day and they’d still be at that.”.

The military bloat of the massive SUVs on the school run is getting ridiculous. You're there to take a child home for tea, not transport a pallet of shrinkwrapped banknotes through the fall of Basra.
My daughter is watching Green Eggs and Ham on Netflix after her under 8s match, and it features a quasi-Bond theme by David Newman that is better than most Bind themes of the last thirty years.
The world’s wrongest man, John Mearsheimer, says he was effectively penniless during his recent visit to Russia because the “Russia expert” didn’t know his US credit card wouldn’t work there.
Hey, does everyone remember how keen the French were to federalise Ireland’s banking debt back in 2010? No?

Beck’s Ride Lonesome is out today, and I can’t remember when I last looked forward to a new album this much.

Great to have Slow Horses back, but the colourist this season really really likes teal, huh?
My thoughts are with MHR and I wish him a speedy recovery. Every politician, from the Taoiseach to a county councillor, should be able to undertake their work in safety.

An Oireachtas committee will be told today that gap between the cost of operating public transport services and the amount generated by passenger fares has increased to more than €800 million. The political issue here is more: why will fossil fuels get gov subsidy but this spending gap won't.
Public transport fare hikes necessary to help plug €800m funding gap, says transport body
Pasted a John Berger quote into Google, just to see. Gemini assured me it was from Downtown Abbey.
I've been checking the source of quotes for my forthcoming book, and the performance of Gemini is extraordinary. I paste the quote into Google, and Gemini will barge in with the wrong answer over and over again. It's not an occasional thing - it's reliably wrong. Very odd.
