Networking helps but the real career solution is a functioning economy that isn't a zombie tech stock facade

For a while I've been noodling on a taxonomy of decision types. I'm not convinced it's fully baked, but I already have been using it successfully in my design process, so I thought I might share it here in its current form. At the moment there's 5 types.

"Game dev is one of those jobs you only do when you really want to. It's not going to make your parents proud, you're unlikely to get rich in an industry that lays off people for making superhits, and its a demanding & confrontative job. Why would you let a machine do the thing you're here to do?"

I spent the last few months talking to over 30 game developers about generative AI. It began as a sort of interview survey but became a pretty comprehensive collection of arguments against the technology altogether. www.gamesradar.com/games/why-so...

It used to be that we complained about this industry because the work is hard, hours are long, pay is meh, and the audience for our work hates us. Now also your career is likely to get tossed into a wood chipper by an MBA vampire who couldn't explain your job if someone put a gun to their head.

Shout out to my fellow #indiedev folks who are also working tirelessly on the parts of their game that can't be shown off in GIFs and screenshots. We may not SEE all of your efforts, but one day we will FEEL them and your care will be appreciated 🤗
