NEW: Almost a year after Trump’s domestic policy bill passed, at least 770,000 children are no longer receiving SNAP benefits. In Arizona, the number of children receiving SNAP has dropped by more than 200,000 since July 2025 — a 55% decline.

"For the first time, able-bodied adults who are 55 to 64 years old have to prove they’re working, volunteering or in school. The requirement is also new for parents with children 14-18 years old and for veterans, people experiencing homelessness and youth aging out of foster care."
The Trump administration’s drive to slash safety-net spending is hitting SNAP. As the cost of gasoline spikes, rent and utilities climb and food remains expensive, more than 3.5 million Americans have lost food benefits.

Today is #EqualPayDay, marking how far into 2026 women have to work to earn what men did in 2025. For moms, women of color and women with disabilities, this day falls even further into the year. Women working full-time, year-round earn 81 cents for every dollar men earn.

New — I spoke to eight trans people in Kansas about the new state law that invalidated their driver’s licenses overnight, what’s it’s like to live there right now, plus details of two DMV emails exclusively obtained by The Handbasket that shed light on the law’s chaotic and cruel rollout:
How Kansas Republicans weaponized the law to target 300 trans driver's license holders
SB 244 was put into effect virtually overnight, causing chaos, panic and fear in the trans community.

As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. It’s often said you never know when you’re living through history, so let me assure you: that’s what’s happening now.

Great info on voter suppression tactics. Consider volunteering at your local elections. It's fun and inspiring and you'll understand the local processes so you can explain to others.
