The 'excused' status for a player on the availability report strikes again. Paul is a rookie forward out of Alabama. Didn't get much run in KC so far, but what minutes she got were at the 9, so more depth there. Had Reilyn Turner as a comp on @paulharvey.theoutfield.nyc's NCAA scouting dashboard.

I felt like the initial coverage of the proposed playoff change in MLS was negative, but mostly out of confusion. The more I sat with the proposal (which was admittedly difficult to parse) the more I saw the vision and believed it could be exactly what we want the playoffs to be.

The real juice here, for me, is the proliferation of Veo etc cameras at all levels of soccer. You're not getting anything out of a Man City game that hasn't been done 1000 times, but if you can get "good enough" data on 10s of thousands of youth players all at once... game changer for recruitment.

If I ran a club I would simply hire then fire Caleb Porter and Bradley Carnell in quick succession. The resulting boost would turn any team from bottom feeder to elite in less than a month.

The goal here for MLS is to shift *elimination* to the playoffs but keep the *rewards* for regular season performance, while also creating home playoff games for as many teams as possible. As confusing as this playoff setup is on paper the more I understand it the more I think it accomplishes that.

Ok, this is how the new MLS playoff structure works. And honestly, having charted it out.. I don't hate it. It gives a lot of advantages to higher seeded teams but still gives the lower seeded teams a fighting chance.

Williams, 28, has been excellent for Rhode Island the last few years. He has 8g/4a in 1,526 mins this season. Hearts made a shock push for the title last season, finishing second.
