I’m not sure if I should have been surprised to find this turquoise eyed villain in the small retention pond at Georgia Southern Univeristy, but I was #birds

I assume this is a juvenile male just molting into his adult plumage. I really like the funky textures he has going on

This is a brown duck with a black rump. He has a fine scalloped pattern on his chest, interspersed with fluffy brown feathers. His rust-red and white wing patches are just visible under brown contour feathers. His bill is orange at the bottom and dark brown on top.

Lucky 13 #birds

Tree swallow pokes her head out of a bluebird box. The box nearly fills the frame and the hole opens to the left and the swallow’s head is poking out of the hole and on the front and side of the box you can see the faded number 13. The bird’s head is iridescent blue-green above and white below. She has a sharp short beak and you can just see her sharp feet poking out at the bottom edge of the hole. The background is bright unfocused focused yellow-green.

Last hermit thrush of the year #birds

A pair of Soras swim in the green coloured water of a prairie marsh. They are small members of the Rail family and usually walk among the reeds, but they also like to swim. They have mottled brown feathers, a grey chest and a candy corn beak. The female on the left has a slightly less bold and thinner black chest and face stripe. The male is a bit behind her, on the right and his black stripe is bolder and thicker. He’s also slightly larger.

Third and final shot of this lovely creature #birds

In the mood to post a bird this evening so here you go #birds

Juvenile eastern bluebird perched on a bare beach, viewed from behind, facing left. The edges of the wings and tail are blue but the head is gray and the back and breast flanks, what you can see of them at least, are red.

I was able to visit one of our local marshes this morning and it was busy! Just after sunrise, this spotted sandpiper came flying in for some morning foraging in the shallows! #Birds 🪶
