Hej Uppsala! I lived in this city for 5yrs, and whenever I'm back it still feels a little like coming home.
Rejected a review invite from Geophysical Research Letters which asked for a 14 day deadline with the option to "e-mail to arrange a possible extension." No! Just give reviewers a month by default. I review a lot, and GRL is a great journal, but can we normalise civilised review times. @agu.org

In the lab running some blanket bog water samples for UV-vis absorbance. Row 5: samples from yesterday, taken in the middle of an ongoing heatwave/drought. Clearly lots of DOC/DOM being produced.
Another warm day for GHG work and water sampling on the Migneint blanket bog - measuring the effects of rewetting/restoration with @laurabaugh94.bsky.social & @peatblogger.bsky.social. On the drive back saw my book in the wild for the first time at Rhug Farm.
Still plenty of tiny frogs in my pond (and a few large ones which must have arrived from elsewhere).
Three months in and my new pond is looking good, and is home to some happy tadpoles. Next: to source a few more nice rocks for the edging.
Read a paper with the data statement: "Data will be made available on request". Emailed the authors: "As for the underlying raw data, we hope you understand that they are part of an ongoing study and we are not yet in a position to share them publicly." Seriously?

Back from a few days in Nijmegen where I got to do the fun role of being the opponent in a PhD defence (and enjoy wearing a silly hat). Lovely to catch up with old friends and colleagues, and see some of the city and surrounding countryside.
This, in a new paper, is wrong. You can't collate data from different waterbodies/different studies + claim it shows emissions increase over time. It simply shows that different researchers have measured different systems that have different emissions. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
