History of Metal 1988: Lita Ford, Lita So, these are morning albums. My wife curates, and I wake up to them. Hair metal’s default is so effeminate that i was on track 3 when I realized the vocalist is a woman. It’s basically a perfect execution of its own brief: “What if Pat Benatar could shred?”

I’m in my Fuck It Bucket-List era, and as such I just caught Guns N’ Roses in the worst venue I’ve ever visited. Not gonna lie, though, that’s not off-aesthetic for GNR. Here’s a smattering of thoughts about the show 1/

Last sentence here is an assurance that “AIUK remains fully committed to defending the human rights, dignity, and equality of all marginalised groups, including women, girls, and members of the trans community.” So, what, we’re just going with bald-face lies now? Or are we redefining “defending”?

History of Metal 1987: King Diamond, Abigail I don’t usually care about plots on an album, but damn. Throw some near-monochrome dramatic lighting at it and it’s a del Toro film. I’m obviously here for the occultist prog guy, but this feels like an artifact of the 70s, rather than a move forward.

I was not expecting a Steve Reich style tape phase using a recording of David Cronenberg talking about death at the end of the new Charli XCX album but it did in fact kick ass.

History of Metal 1986: Slayer, Reign in Blood Gotta go fast! Early Thrash is extreme whiplash from yesterday’s definition of Metal. They’re trying to have a bad time, and succeeding admirably. Slayer really aren’t Nazis, they’re just at the vanguard of 90s edgelording. But man. Man, they sure are.

Stunning to watch as England made all the same mistakes on the football pitch as they did on the Eurovision 2021 stage.

The week of spiked depression and anxiety has been so worth it. 😂😭

Was low key dreading Ask E. Jean for all the obvious reasons, and like CW all the obvious shit, but I’d actively recommend this film for other sexual assault survivors if you can. It’s heartbreaking, and hard to watch at times, but ultimately it’s the most honest film about healing that I’ve seen.

History of Metal 1985: Possessed, Seven Churches As in “of the Apocalypse” per Revelations. After around 30 seconds of Tubular Bells this record crashes into grindingly distorted guitar. From there, generally earning its title as the first death metal album, it’s all growl, speed, and Satan.

I love this watch because it’s anyone’s guess if I know what day it is, but by damn I sure know how full the moon is. On the same logic as with cats, who I always wish I knew the names of in random pictures, and OF COURSE I named my watch: his name is Form.

History of Metal 1985: Loudness, Thunder in the East Between their last record and this one, Japanese metal band Loudness signed with a major American label and polished their sound from speed metal to glam. Takasaki’s guitar is precise, and the record has pop hooks. It’s here to have a good time.
