teacher/educator : aspiring abolitionist : phd in education : notoriously late to all the hot takes

For a certain kind of white man, there is no fear more primal than the fear that the people they have abused will gain power and treat them the same way.

Kindest reminder: there is an active boycott of the New York Times: objectivejournalism.org/2026/08/tran... TransNews Network has joined the Writers Against the War on Gaza (WAWOG)'s call for a boycott of the paper until they apologize for and reverse their role in aiding and abetting genocide.

All else aside there is nothing I want or need genAI to do for me. I like reading. I like doing research. I like playing around in spreadsheets. I like interviewing people. I like writing. I like doing these things for myself because I take pleasure in the doing and they make me a better thinker.

This framing really “clicked” something in my understanding of the AI push (bombardment) into education. As with other labor sectors, they want to reduce the labor force as one of their driving outcomes. Of course!

We know how to teach books in the age of AI: small classes, close reading, research-engaged learning (which is how you ’let students see you struggle’). The issue is nobody will hire and pay the requisite # of faculty to offer this.

I took a hard look at the financial donors to ICE’s biggest supporters in Congress. These are people who want to significantly expand ICE’s power and have sponsored or co-sponsored legislation to do so. Here are the top 25 consumer brands bankrolling the biggest ICE supporters in Congress:

Trump has waved away the idea of accepting U.S. responsibility for the massacre of schoolchildren in Minab, Iran, on the first day of the U.S. and Israel’s war — and has suggested, heinously, that photo evidence of U.S. munitions used on the school “are AI.”

The US is widely acknowledged to be responsible for the strike, including within internal Pentagon investigations.

Important to note that amid the World Cup—but far from host cities full of international journalist—“ICE last month arrested more [people] than any month in the history of the agency,” said Tom Homan, White House ‘border czar’

Q: Will this change on vehicle stops lower the rate of deportations? HOMAN: No. No. I'm sick and tired of reading about how the administration has lost their guts with mass deportation. Do you know that ICE last month arrested more aliens than any month in the history of the agency?

Trump has formally alerted Congress that he has restarted the U.S. war on Iran, potentially allowing his administration to argue that the War Powers deadline has been reset. Despite the "ceasefires", the war never actually ended, with blockades and hostile attacks from both sides persisting.

Trump Tells Congress He’s Restarted War on Iran — And Will Likely Claim the War Powers Deadline Has Reset

Democrats have said they may sue the president if he doesn’t adhere to previous War Powers votes.

ICE has fatally shot 11 people since Donald Trump's second term began. These are not isolated incidents. They are the predictable result of a cruel, violent system. Abolish ICE.
