I just find BlueSky lacks the hard edge of breaking news? Has it got better?
#FitzPOTW @peterfitz1.bsky.social WTF POTW contender????? Why do ICE agents need to SWAP LICENCE PLATES?????
Personally I am unfamiliar with any legitimate activity that requires switching license plates, which by the way is illegal.
Tks, Eric. Just a little quiet over here for me, and lacking the hard news edge, no? Don't you find that?
Welcome back Peter. #auspol
I think most Australians are like me: we very much know who Prime Minister Keir Starmer is - him and Macron are leaders of the Free World - but have no clue about the Opposition Leader, yet.
A superb listen. The similarities between the Liberals in Oz & the Tories here are striking. And Peters’s description of Farage after the rolled gold disaster that is Brexit is spot on. Thank you both (& Kenny of course).
The rule of thumb among Labor ministers, I am told, is "Ignore what's on the front pages. Get the right policy."
A question: do you think that the Australian media, which is very right wing, is as or more hostile to Labor than the UK media is to Labour? And, since the ALP clearly overcame the media's framing, could that also happen in the UK? Or does it just mean that the media matters less than we think?

🎧 This was a fabulously enjoyable, high-level introduction to Australian politics and their recent elections, even though “you’ve barely let @peterfitz1.bsky.social get a word in edgeways,” @sturdyalex.bsky.social! 👏😆 🇺🇸 “Chaos on roller skates”!!! 🤣 🇦🇺 #Politics 🗳️ #Podcasts 📻

I think, to the North, that is what you are frequently known as - and most affectionately~!
As a Tasmanian, I don't think I've heard locals calling ourselves 'Taswegian'?
Fabulous celebration of a champion of public transport by @peterfitz1.bsky.social. Problem with being prematurely right! @m1ngthemerciless.bsky.social www.smh.com.au/national/nsw...
The metro’s already proved its worth. But will Sydney’s transport mandarins get on board?
We now have all the evidence we need that building new freeways is not the solution to traffic congestion in the harbour city. We need to change.

“I’ve never been called a “lefty-luvvie” before!” Interesting chat between Greg Combet and @peterfitz1.bsky.social www.smh.com.au/national/gre...
Greg Combet: Julia Gillard sounded me out on the leadership. I made the right call
Greg Combet was not born on the wrong side of the tracks. In 1960s Rooty Hill, there weren’t any tracks at all.

I'm never quite sure what the Commonwealth is, beyond - with a few exceptions - a British Empire Alumni Club? America qualifies on that count, but not right now with current barking mad leadership?
Hey Peter, if the USA joins “The Commonwealth”, will that spawn an increased interest in Aus population to head toward a republic more quickly? I think that Charlie wants 2 B the king regaining some of the English empire by bringing the colony back! USA in & Aus out, I would think & hope!
#FitzPOTW @peterfitz1.bsky.social Action of the week ...... US protests AGAINST Trump/Musk administration actions Bernie & AOC got 34,000 to a rally in Denver (Australian media is NOT covering these protests, but they are growing bigger & bigger. And are NATIONAL. Esp in Republican areas.)
BREAKING: 34,000 people have showed up in Denver, Colorado this evening to see Bernie Sanders and AOC fight oligarchy and authoritarianism.
Repeated around the world, but with different financial levers. Billionaires leveraging communities in the US, sports leagues leveraging communities in Australia.

Au contraire. The further we move into this century, the more it is obvious that Australia needs to forge an independent path.
@peterfitz1.bsky.social Will the shenanigans in the USA spell the end of the republican movement in Australia?
Tks, very much worth reading, y'all. Different country, same nonsense: huge expenditure on stadiums pays for itself. Complete and utter bollocks.

the sad thing about rwnj polotics is if biden had suggested any one of the mad things trump has said and the dow dropped 4 trillion they would be going ballistic. but trump doing it is fine.
