14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

Every New Yorker deserves to move around our city freely and safely, regardless of how they get around. That’s why the NYC Council is launching a comprehensive review of where existing laws can be stronger enforced, and what additional solutions are needed to keep New Yorkers safe.

Last week, while walking my daughter home from camp in her stroller, a car with Virginia plates and $8000 in NY traffic fines blew threw a red light and honked at us to get out of the way while we crossed the street. Maybe start there instead of some dramatized Citi Bike nonsense.

This is correct. It went from a "crazy idea" that the various Law Knowers said was obviously stupid, to a nearly-there cause that can be won if Rs get to replace Sotomayor. And in the meantime, Rs who were otherwise happy w Trump on immigration have new demands to stop "birth tourism."

I am so confused by this rhetoric. Mamdani endorsed people, a thing politicians often do, and they won, and you don't like that result. In what way is the party blown up. It still seems to exist. Other, different politicians also won last night.

the reason dsa candidates are winning is because theyre saying theyll do actual things to make peoples lives better and identifying billionaires as an obstacle to those things, its not super complicated or anything

A US-born woman born was confronted by sheriff deputies in Louisiana who were convinced her ID and social security card were fakes. They turned her over to ICE, who shackled her & took her an hour away. Even after a lawyer convinced ICE of the woman's citizenship the sheriff says they did no wrong

Funny how after every SCOTUS ruling striking down some protection from government abuse, the officials those protections restrained — cops, prosecutors, Republican state electeds — immediately start acting in the precise manner SCOTUS assured us they no longer do.

We've reached the point where one party has so obliterated the rule of law that everyone else continuing to abide by it will only hasten the end of our democracy. That's a recipe for chaos and violence. It's terrifying, and I don't know what we do about it.
