The narrow, high-banked path that carves a channel through the boneyard of St. Urian’s at Wormford is notoriously ghost-soaked. We would expect nothing less for a old wraith way, yet it has a pleasing diversity of phantoms: giant spiders made of smoke; flaming wheels; floating pillars of blue light.

Locals used to call the cliffs at Dedwick 'the place of a thousand skulls'. Given that the clifftop cemetery was collapsing onto the beach below, it wasn't an unreasonable name. Even now, storms sometimes pull bones onto shore, feeding it new ghosts. – #MattAdams, 1981

I try to refuse sentiment, but few words stir my heart more than Free Public Library. However, I will admit that the phrase Free Local Museum comes exceedingly close. How can one not adore an eccentric collection of obscure objects acting as ghost-magnets? – #CJosiffe

I should've done this yesterday, but in the haunted cupboard I just found a batch of old lino printed William Ager crests from A Warning to the Curious. I'll include one with every order from the M.R. James print series til I run out..! 👁️ slipperyjack.bigcartel.com

‘Hookland Fragments’ is a must-read for anyone who’s found themselves under the spell of England’s forgotten county. The introductory essay alone makes the book worth having, but I also loved the background on some of Hookland’s denizens and the alphabet of inspiration for this misremembered county.

Hookland Fragments, Volume One by David Southwell

Goodnight from Gary Broom, trying to work up enough courage to enter Madame Vadoma’s tent at the Swanford Fair. Goodnight from Hookland Anomaly Research Team (HART), arguing about whose bloody stupid idea it was to conduct an investigation above a plague pit. Goodnight from Hookland.
