I do wonder if some of Arday’s claims described in The Guardian (the intruder, receiving a whole pig and poison, which he alleged to have reported to police) were some form of delusions. Why wasn’t he assessed by a mental health team, and instead paraded all over the news? Because he was black.
So pleased to be cast alongside Elsa in the new series as the first wheelchair-using character, Benny Fitzscrounger! In place of a wheelchair (as it was too unrealistic for a fantasy setting), Benny is generously lent a broom transfigured by the Mota Bilitum spell

I think Jason Arday was a fantasist who ended up terribly out of his depth. I think his institutions put him there because it was good for their optics, with no thought for safeguarding. I think they tried to respond to the cracks showing by covering them up, and I doubt it was the first time.
This. And I'm already seeing people erase his disability in real time. This isn't only about his Blackness, the NYT made a huge deal of his disability and reading level. This is how racism & ableism work together, they intersect to harm all Black people and target Black disabled people for death.
