Following Rod Liddle's death I've been thinking again about the often unacknowledged privilege in being able to see the words of a demagogue as just things you disagree with rather than things that threaten people.

I know it shouldn’t, but it still does surprise me that supposedly smart people whose opinions we should apparently take seriously are quite happy to just overlook violence against women when the perpetrator is claimed to be funny. And I’m still supposed to venerate these supposedly smart people.

Haters focusing on Liddle's violence toward his pregnant partner, his galloping racism, or his repeated defences of paedophilia, should remember to mention he was also one of the worst writers to ever do it. A calorie-free hack of the first water. Just absolute dogshit, back to front.

I love that we have wolves here in the Netherlands. So much of our ‘countryside’ is as constructed as our cities so it’s exciting to have these little pockets of nature that allow for such diversity. In fact based on what I’ve read their presence in the Veluwe is increasing biodiversity.

Wolves have made a spectacular comeback in Europe. But attacks on livestock and humans have caused a heated debate about the limits of coexistence. Learn more: https://scim.ag/4a9BfLS

Spain received as many asylum seekers in ONE DAY as the Netherlands receives in TWO YEARS! Absolutely shameless for the Dutch government to criticize the Spanish government of their handling of this ACTUAL crisis, given that Dutch governments have been CREATING FAUX crises for decades.

Because they’re too blinded by their own racism. The only reason this migration as hybrid warfare works against Europe is because it weaponises Europe’s anti-migrant racism. If there was no anti-migrant racism these “attacks” wouldn’t work as intended.

“Morocco is signaling to Spain through these easily instrumentalized mass crossings that it could attempt to annex Ceuta and Melilla at any point, yet the EU fails to see through this strategy. 6/

The people who've spent the last 50 years denying/minimising climate change - the columnists, the newspaper owners, those who used their credentials to muddy the waters - should be held personally responsible for every death from global heating. “She’s just a translator” shows that you don’t understand what translation is. Some of this comes from the ‘automation’ of translation, through things like Google translate. It’s as though it’s just looking words up in a dictionary. No. It’s an art and a science at once. To get meaning and feeling.
