Reading a biography of Wilfred Owen. Before they married, his parents spent 11 years, continents apart, writing letters 2 or 3 times a week. I've been with my partner 11 years and we've had 2 phone calls, the rest is "dinner's on the table" and photos of our animals via WhatsApp. No letters.
EIGHT maids a-milking? In this economy?
SEVEN deadly sins? In this economy?
Practice gets boring. Some find the joy in the repetition. Some find the joy in slow, halting, but eventual progress. Some love the future vision of mastery. Pick whatever works for you, so you keep at it.
@cmooreanderson.bsky.social how does making meaning work in language learning? What meanings should we be looking for? What differences?
Who* hurt these people when they went on a school visit as children? Such stupidity. *No one, absolutely no one
Closing Jodrell Bank is one of those indicators we should be watching out for. It shows changing priorities. Anti-intellectualism. Pullback from global communities. Curiosity and advancement unimportant. To save £2.8m?? What are we even doing here? www.theguardian.com/science/2026...
"both kinds" of government is doing a lot of work here, as neither are particularly kind. Maybe it's time for something, erm, hopeful?
For me the right answer is grow the economy and fund FE. What we're seeing here is governments (of both kinds) struggling to run the economy since 2016, and consequently looking for politically easier answers elsewhere - in this case, with the education system.

History teaches us how to be a Nazi cos-play Home Secretary... How to punch down on disabled people. How to other LGBTQ+ folks. In this government it doesn't seem to have taught critical critical (sic) thinking skills...
In the UK debate about Burnham's country wide MBacc, there's a clear answer... Prompt engineers for the win. Writing good prompts requires domain knowledge, language articulation, critical thinking, and the ability to master the infinite scroll. This could solve society's social media crisis
My Trans Pride interview included a reference to Cass that UK reports left out, but interestingly the Murdoch owned NT News Australia did broadcast these words. ‘If you continue adhering to the Cass report, which has been widely discredited, you are complicit in the deaths of these young people’.

New Podcast! Since I’ll be doing more episodes of Smart Bear Live, like the one just done with the great @dmytrokrasun.com, I’ve created a podcast as well as the YouTube channel. It should be everywhere: Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc.. Weee!
Unless you're trans. Then you're not allowed to self actualise at school...
'Parity of esteem cannot mean asking poorer children to narrow their horizons earlier. The most progressive education policy remains the simplest: give every child access to powerful knowledge and allow them to decide for themselves what they will become' schoolsweek.co.uk/no-andy-burn...
Yet more consultations... Where are the user research findings that go alongside each and every gov.uk service. Read them and implement the changes needed for a more just and equitable society. Also, don't tell me there's no money...
The DWP are asking for people to contribute evidence for a forthcoming review of Carers Allowance and how it operates. Admittedly this is niche, but please spread the word so it reaches the right people. www.gov.uk/government/c...

Where is the first terrorist attack in the UK going to be now that Burnham has decided to allow bombing by US forces from the UK?
I always assumed the first steps on the moon would have been in winter, so you'd have more time...
First job for Wes... Ban trans folks from the armed forces 😱 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️
BREAKING: Big job for Wes Streeting as he becomes Defence Secretary. Also; •Alex Norris as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice •Dame Angela Eagle as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs •Miatta Fahnbulleh as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero
Imagine being a Labour MP and discovering that there's a large % of the base who are going to call out Burnham's nonsense on day 2... But but but... It's a circuit breaker 😭
Our Prime Minister promised action on the cost of living and on his second day in office, has cut VAT from household electricity bills from October 👏
Burnham: "investing in people's success, rather than paying for failure". What a disgusting perspective on society. Unless he really does mean supporting disabled people into work, getting rid of zero hours contracts and the gig economy. His tie and wife's dress colour-code that differently

Pets are the new children, plants are the new pets, towels are the new ironing board.
Imagine if real, clever people wrote the scripts instead of lazy ai-mongers writing the prompt, which might work today, but it'll be confused af tomorrow. In my experience.
As a dev, I agree what you describe should be automated. But why did it have to be an AI and not a regular script? What was the use case that an LLM solved?
