An immigration enforcement system that punishes people for the government’s own delay is a system which destroys its own legitimacy. People are being thrown in handcuffs and put in ICE detention despite having done every single thing the U.S. government asked them to do.
This couple came legally. They applied for asylum before their visas expired, wanting to do it all by the books. After six months, they applied for work permits to stay afloat, passing background checks. They worked legally and paid taxes while government delay dragged on. Then ICE came for them.

Meta has made it repeatedly clear that one of their growth strategies is sexualizing kids. Mark Zuckerberg and his leadership team deserve to face personal liability for this, and the company deserves sanctions up to and including corporate dissolution

I saw it play out in some of the hearings I witnessed today at 201 Varick Street. How on earth can we keep children in detention, deny them reunification, and not even provide them lawyers? (3/5)
What's even more egregious is that many of these kids have family members here they could be quickly reunified with. But this administration is throwing up as many roadblocks as possible to prevent that from happening. (2/5)

Wow! @menendez.house.gov says that the EXACT scenario I flagged two months ago, where ICE "releases" someone having a medical emergency solely so their death won't be recorded as occurring while in custody, happened last month at the infamous Delaney Hall detention center in Newark, NJ.

@theyoungcenter.bsky.social have been receiving last-minute referrals for children who've lost their attorneys and have imminent court/asylum hearings since the Trump admin started trying to get rid of those attorneys last January. Now, it's worse than ever. But our Child Advocates never quit. :)
This new contract doesn't start until 8/15. The old one expired 7/31. So for two weeks, unaccompanied & separated children facing deportation will have no new lawyers appointed to them at all. (The orgs appointed to children pre-7/31 haven't been paid all year, btw.) What happens on 8/15?...
The reason they fired all the existing attorneys for immigrant children in ORR detention is bc lawyers under the most recent contract refused to violate attorney-client privilege. The government receives appointment information, but wants the attorneys' private files to deport children more easily.

It’s wrong on principle, it’s unamerican—we rejected religious tests for office and dual loyalty smears with JFK, Jewish Americans, more—and every minority (especially but not exclusively religious) should recognize it as yet another assertion that only white Christians are real Americans.

I wanted Tom Steyer to be in the Governor's race, but he's not so I'm gonna vote for Becerra. I don't follow his campaign at all: I'm voting for him because he's not a Republican.
This is the correct answer. The principle that every person living between the Mediterranean and the Jordan should have equal rights and self-determination is far more important than the number of states.

To the extent there are problems with The System, they’re largely (1) poor people suffer, (2) women suffer, and (3) people of color suffer. These are all things RFK likes about The System. To give him credit for “shaking things up” is to out yourself as either a eugenicist or a dumbfuck. Or both.

Important to know/remember: States are generally terrible at notifying formerly disenfranchised people of their voting rights. Many have no idea they’re allowed to vote. Many more avoid voting because they’re not sure if they can. I wrote about this in Kentucky but it’s a problem all over.
