The Strait of Hormuz is not the only load-bearing instance of US power backstopping modern economies.
the problem with the dumbshits opining about the Vimes boots theory thing is that they're taking commentary set in a pre industrial society, re said boots, and applying it literally. there's a lot of things where this still holds, just not in good workwear ironically.

Your voice matters and you should feel good that you made a difference. Obviously, the fight isn't over, but this was an important victory.

Buying cheaper boots may cost you an absolute amount more over the long term but it also frees up your upfront money to invest in other things, which buying more expensive boots would not allow you to. Time IS money.
