The point of legislated dehumanization is never just the law itself but the creation of a climate in which institutions become more timid and companies more cautious. Erasure of a people under capitalism arrives first as a thousand risk calculations.

The End of Reading Is Here
Optimists once believed that universal literacy was inevitable. Now it seems that the age of reading might be a short anomaly in human history.

Mathematics refutes bogus AI hype. "Language models cannot learn all computable functions. As soon as they are tasked with solving a broad spectrum of issues, they will inevitably hallucinate. There is no training method, no architectural variant, and no amount of data that can shift this limit."
How Gödel and Turing outlined the limits of AI
Hallucinations of language models are not an engineering problem: they stem from mathematical limits proven since the 1930s.

Installed Fedora Linux on my old HP netbook, and the thing's never been faster or more responsive. Linux is rapidly leaving Windows 11 far behind.

I'm definitely on board with this response as regards Runequest
Well, god dammit, I'm mad that there's nothing to get mad about here! :) More seriously, great follow up, and I'm especially glad that Mark took my response as discussion, not as "DIE IN A FIRE, INFIDEL"

Been enjoying a terrific stay at the Ultharian Embassy - a.k.a. TL Wiswell's great place in South London. Great food, great books, great hospitality and feline overlords!
A great evening at the @allgoodbookshop.co.uk, with Ben Adam Sohawon reading "The Haunter of the Dark", then TL Wiswell's poignant and chilling mini-opera "The Dunwich Horror Picture Show". The audience woofed, chirped, and chanted on cue & had a fantastic time. Great work the creators! @Lovecraft

@cymerafestival.co.uk Glad to have got my attendance at Cymera 2026 sorted, and can't wait
Sad news: Julian and I talked over the weekend and decided to withdraw the Lovecraft Investigations RPG stretch goal. Better news: I'll release what I've done so far (with tweaks) as an ashcan at UK Games Expo. The working title is "The Cthulhu Conspiracy: The Dunwich Horror".
You may have noticed that one of our stretch goals for the Call of Cthulhu campaign, a rules-light TTRPG based on the show, created by Graham Walmsley, has disappeared from the literature. It is not gone forever, but just from this campaign, and the simple reason is that I got a little too […]
