What venture capital fails to understand, again and again and again, is that building a development team is like building a sports team. It’s THE TEAM that achieve things; not the uniforms. You can’t just “drop 6 from the headcount” and, at some point, hire 6 other people back.. not how it works.

I've been told that half were let go today, in line with other locations earlier this week. this follows concern that the engine itself could be on the chopping block (which id and microsoft have refuted)
It also doesn't matter if you work on a game that's critically panned or only sells okay. I assure you, there's someone for whom that is their *favorite* game. An example: I worked on Iron Man 2, the game. It's okay. It was made under deathmarch crunch conditions and the team was harmed.
Of all the possible outcomes this was probably the best one. I wasn’t exactly counting on Microsoft doing the decent thing here.
