Writer and director of video games you probably haven’t heard of, including Dustborn, Draugen and Dreamfall. (Also, in a previous life, The Longest Journey and The Secret World, etc.) Creative person at @redthreadgames.bsky.social Making hellosunshine.app

What venture capital fails to understand, again and again and again, is that building a development team is like building a sports team. It’s THE TEAM that achieve things; not the uniforms. You can’t just “drop 6 from the headcount” and, at some point, hire 6 other people back.. not how it works.

id's frankfurt office, which mostly focuses on the id tech engine, has been hit by layoffs. I've been told that half were let go today, in line with other locations earlier this week. this follows concern that the engine itself could be on the chopping block (which id and microsoft have refuted)

It also doesn't matter if you work on a game that's critically panned or only sells okay. I assure you, there's someone for whom that is their *favorite* game. An example: I worked on Iron Man 2, the game. It's okay. It was made under deathmarch crunch conditions and the team was harmed.

It's STEAM SUMMER SALE time! Which means I've updated my Steam Curator page with everything I've enjoyed recently. I'll also be picking out the best deals in this thread - bookmark this post! If you like what I do, consider tipping! (Ko-Fi/Paypal) - All tips go towards more indie games to research!

Steam Curator: Dominic Tarason's Opinionation Station

Info-tags aside (for listing stuff) this is 100% personal recommendations on games I've played. Expect a lot of weird, indie, undersold or otherwise mysterious stuff, plus the occasional mainstream fa...

"Game dev is one of those jobs you only do when you really want to. It's not going to make your parents proud, you're unlikely to get rich in an industry that lays off people for making superhits, and its a demanding & confrontative job. Why would you let a machine do the thing you're here to do?"

I spent the last few months talking to over 30 game developers about generative AI. It began as a sort of interview survey but became a pretty comprehensive collection of arguments against the technology altogether. www.gamesradar.com/games/why-so...

If you see stuff about game studios shutting down right now and your first reaction is to go post your thoughts about how they deserved to fail for not making more commercial games, basically just fuck off. That's the only corrective action you can take. Fuck. Right. Off.

“I don’t want to play a woman in a video game, I want to go frame-by-frame in a trailer to find the worst looking shots of her and then whine like a dog that can’t find its tennis ball”

Hello Sunshine has breached the top 300 Steam wishlists and we still have a while to go. Thanks to everyone who's supported us so far! Let's see how high we can get before release day. Also, if you haven't yet wishlisted our little mystery survival game…? 😬

Screenshot from SteamDB where it says Hello Sunshine is #299 in top (Steam) wishlists.

Once again I am respectfully asking all creatives to have some sort of a simple website easily available with your info on, there are many free and easy ways to do this, please don’t make me have to gather hobbits to go on a massive quest to find your contact or portfolio info

We made a pretty good coming of age story game but most players won’t even give it a chance because it’s got too much color. We’re not all that different in love, relationships, and generational issues. I promise you can relate to these characters. store.steampowered.com/app/1617220/...

Today in things that make me proud to be Mayor: PS 889's Hyper Pigmentation became 2-time Minecraft champs at the City's Annual Video Game Festival. Gaming doesn’t have to be a male-dominated industry. NYC is a top recruiter of gaming jobs & we want the next gen of hires to look more like our city.

Two gamers hug in celebration.A row of girls in gaming chairs typing on computers.Five gamers pose with a sign the reads “Hyper Pigmentation” in front of a step-and-repeat that reads “Mayor’s Cup”

So you enjoyed the game so much you BEAT IT then SAT THROUGH THE CREDITS and only *then* did you find out she was involved and got mad? Sounds like you don't actually care about games just about if your politics are being catered to.
