How do I convince my brother that he don’t need to send me no more conspiratorial Facebook videos featuring folks who fear monger and use fallacies to support their unverified claims?
Instead of 31 books for #theSealeyChallenge I’m reading 1 big one—Amiri Baraka’s “SOS Poems 1961-2013” I’ve long been aware of his name and importance to Black folks, but I’ve never read his work. Now feels as good a time as any to introduce myself.
If you’re prepping for #thesealeychallenege then perhaps you might consider adding my debut to your list
My son and I were returning books to the library earlier today, about 12 in total, and a (white) lady walked up behind me and attempted to hand me her books to drop in the slot. She noticed my confused expression and laughed then said “Oh, I thought you were the book return person”.

One of my homies is adamant that I need to try using chatGPT and I keep telling him that I can hallucinate and spout random bullshit without the help of a computer program.
Hey #SealeyChallenge, I'd be honored if you included my poetry book in your August readings! You'd also be supporting a kickass new press, @matchfactoryeds.bsky.social, & if you buy it through the NWP @bookshop.org page, you're ALSO supporting the best teacher network!

Parents can be expected to know all, but they don't have many answers in a world of constantly moving rights and wrongs. The poems in The Size of the Horizon, or, I Explained Everything to the Trees e...

🙃🥴😬 = that feeling when your about halfway through a 500+ page novel written by a poet you adore & the story still feels like it hasn’t started yet.
Just saw a guy in Subway Takes say “In a world full of Tamaras, be a Tia” and I couldn’t agree more.
Hey, yall remember back in the day when you could eat leafy greens and breathe outside? What a time.
Okay so I finished reading Martyr! about an hour ago and I am still sitting here lowkey gobsmacked at the beauty of the writing. I know it’s not a hot take at this point, but Kaveh Akbar put his foot in that book.
I’m bout halfway through reading Martyr!, here are a few of my thoughts thus far. -Cyrus is a mess & I love it. -Orkideh is my fave character. -It’s not fair that Kaveh Akbar is so good at everything. -Lisa and Roya’s scene should’ve been longer. -Poets make the best novelists. -“Earth Martyrs” 🤯
If I as a Black man start working with Spanish-speaking folks, am I wrong if I don’t tell them I also speak Spanish? One of my old chefs called me a slur while gossiping with another cook, when I mentioned I could understand them, he got mad at me for not being honest. #AITA
35 was a blast. Can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for me. Shoutouts to 36. Happy Birthday to me.
At least twice a month I think about the fact that Aretha Franklin would demand to be paid in cash for performing then carry her purse on stage with her & sing the til the rafters trembled.
Taylor said we dropping drafts today, so here we go. Here’s a sonnet inspired by the (long, long) road to the election & our nation’s habitually short memory.
It’s a week into the new year! Posting the draft of the first poem I’ve written this year, generated from my reading notes for SIGNS, MUSIC by Raymond Antrobus. Join me in sharing a draft if you wish!
Update: We pushed publication to Feb. 2027. While you wait, I recommend the new books from @ralpheeboi.bsky.social, @pochoboymeetsworld.bsky.social, @janezwart.bsky.social, @clairemtaylor.com, @mrdecember.bsky.social, and soooo many more but those 5 are in a stack right in front of me.
Good news in the sh*%storm: I have a new poetry collection coming later this year! Beginning to Sense, @matchfactoryeds.bsky.social, October 2026. (That's not the cover. I just mocked up a title page for this announcement.)
Writing fiction is crazy cuz you really just have to SAY that shit. The whole shit. As a poet, I’m more practiced at alluding to that shit through metaphors involving various types of birds, but I love learning a new skill 😂
Am I gonna regret not outlining this short story before I began writing it? Probably. Am I currently having a great time despite having almost no idea where this thing is going? Definitely.
Finally got out of my head about it and started writing a short story. Got about 1500 words on the page today.
I’ll be doing a reading at Beyond Baroque on June 12th at 7:30pm to launch my friend Mitchell Jacobs’ debut poetry collection! So excited to read new stuff (only seen by one other person)! Here’s the link to get tickets! www.eventbrite.com/e/la-book-la...
my goal was to have the new collection finished by end of summer, but i think i'll have it done within a week or two... so to that end im having a giveaway, four drawings: one for each of my three available books and one grand drawing for all three. dm your name & interest for which drawings.
It’s almost like the pistons have no interest in going to the finals.
I am reaching for the part of myself that is full of gratitude but often I am really very disgusted by my life.

People with big gums always have the most vibrant smiles.
Yall remember back in the day when the hot takes folks shared online were actually hot and not just _____ist/____phobic rage bait?
