Beware the Free Speech Unions

Atlas Network interlinked, these bodies aim to protect the right to be awful about or to targeted groups. New Zealand's version also appears to work as a "troll farm" for the government.

Podiatry NZ advocacy toolkit for members is deadly! 1. Prevention- early intervention saves limbs and lives 2. Equity - access should not depend on postcode, deprivation or ethnicity 3. Workforce- shortages are becoming critical. So: expand public funding, improve access & integrated care teams

Podiatry NZ conference invited me to speak. Podiatrists are a critical prevention focused workforce: underfunded, underrecognised. Podiatry is a health science. Evidence informed. Properly funded Podiatry reduces hospital admissions, reduces complications from diabetes including amputations.

Urgh^2. Minister is plain wrong in saying that Constitution Act is not an appropriate place for statement of official language, because Act deals with main constitutional provisions. It’s commonplace around the world to specify official languages in such Acts.

this is literally a breach of free speech principles and is rightwing collusion to attack the democratic functions of the media we ALL always knew that this is how they operate, but far too many - including journos - ignored or gave benefit of the doubt there shouldnt be ANY doubt from this point

THE FSU WENT AFTER ANDREA VANCE FOR ASKING QUESTIONS TO THE MINISTER BECAUSE THE MINISTERS OFFICE FORWARDED THEM TO THE DOCTOR??!??? www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361...

Fix this headline. Minister appoints FSU backed Doctor with history of anti-Māori views and transphobia to Medical Council to replace those he saw as having an "ideological agenda". Not even hiding it here are they? www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361...

Doctor at centre of free speech row appointed to Medical Council

Dr Manoja Kalupahana has been appointed by Health Minister Simeon Brown to the statutory body responsible for regulating New Zealand's 20,000 doctors.

The questions focused on the appointment process: whether Brown was aware of her previous public profile before appointing her to Medical Council; whether officials, Health New Zealand or the council were consulted; whether minister had discussed appointment with FSU www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361...

Free Speech Union attacks reporter for asking minister questions

The Free Speech Union ‒ which exists to defend free speech ‒ has attacked a journalist for asking Health Minister Simeon Brown questions over email.

1/7 Yet again, David Seymour provides an appalling, evidence-free policy. His new welfare reforms are built on a complete fantasy (shock!) and the machinery he’s designed will reliably break real bodies while completely missing the target. 🧵 andrewdicksonnz.substack.com/p/staining-t...

Staining the Poor: The Cruelty and Coercive Control of Seymour's New Card

ACT’s cashless welfare card ignores years of failed evidence to do something far worse: treat state-sponsored financial abuse as public policy.
