What I’ve learned as the “proverbial adult daughter” referenced in this piece is that more support services should be available for elderly and disabled people, full stop. Even for those with loving families, care should NOT rely solely on their (mostly women’s) unpaid labor and problem-solving!

Streets are mostly clear, but the path between the house and my car is solid ice and very treacherous. My mom and I were going to get groceries, but she didn’t feel safe crossing, so we stood on opposite sides of the ice patch yelling our plans and I had to go without her like in Land Before Time.
